Release the Pressure of Expectations: The Blue Halloween Bucket Dilemma
I believe that as moms we often place unnecessary expectations on ourselves. Take the blue halloween bucket for example, do you feel the pressure to purchase one for your child, just because society said it was a good idea? If you had a special needs child who fit the description for this halloween bucket idea but your child wanted a green bucket instead, which color would you buy for them? It’s important for us as moms to be aware of the expectations we set on ourselves and to question where those expectations are coming from and whether or not they are helpful. The Heart: Essential Insights into Self-Care Pillar #3
Do you know the answer to this question: What do you like to do for fun? A few years ago, I didn't know. My answer was always something along the lines of, "Um, I don't. I'm a mom. I clean and try to survive. I don't have time for hobbies and even if I did have time, I don't even know what I enjoy anymore." And then I would laugh it off. But looking back now, that's really sad. I'm sad for myself back then, because now my life is full of so many hobbies and interests that fill my time with rich and happy moments. I missed out on that for so many years. So, if you're that mom, if you don't know the answer to that question, then I think it's time we find out. And if you do know the answer, well, I still think you should be here because today we are talking about the third pillar in our self-care journey: emotional health, the heart, finding the things that bring us joy, and purposefully planning those into our days. It's about creating more connection in our lives and our relationships, and it's also about processing our emotions.
