Spiked Heaters: A Between Innings Podcast is a weekly, in-season reflection on coaching, leadership, and the mental side of baseball. Recorded in real time, between games, this podcast isn’t about recaps or hot takes — it’s about decision-making, emotional regulation, standards, and perspective during a long season.
Part therapy, part leadership journal, Spiked Heaters is an honest look at the space between preparation and performance, told from inside the dugout while it’s actually happening.
Mound Visit #9- Jonathan de Marte, Win Reality/Team Israel
What does it take to go from a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year to the Olympic stage? And what happens when the journey looks nothing like you imagined?
This week on Spiked Heaters: A Between Innings Podcast, Torr welcomes former professional pitcher, Team Israel Olympian, and WIN Reality representative Jonathan de Marte.
Jonathan shares his incredible baseball journey—from six years at the University of Richmond and multiple surgeries to independent professional baseball and representing Israel at the Tokyo Olympics. Along the way, he shares some unforgettable stories about international baseball, perseverance, and the relationships that make the game special.

Overcoming injuries and adversity
The unlikely road to the Olympics
Behind-the-scenes stories from international baseball
Transitioning from professional baseball to a career in technology
Using data to accelerate player development
The changing landscape of college baseball recruiting
What technology can—and can't—measure about a player

Episode 25- Life Well Lived
How do we measure a life? By the number of years someone lived, or by the people they impacted along the way?
This week, Torr remembers his former Elizabethtown College teammate and friend, Dan Lauletta, who passed away suddenly at just 39 years old.
Reflecting on Dan's life, his services, and the incredible outpouring of support from the Wilmington University athletic community, Torr looks back on the special bond of the 2006 championship team—and why he's spent the last 20 years trying to recreate that culture throughout his coaching career.
The conversation also turns to life at DeSales Baseball, including honest end-of-fall player evaluations, the changing realities of college baseball recruiting, and a difficult question: Is there really a spot in college baseball for everyone?
Finally, a weekend of youth soccer and gymnastics offers another reminder that being a great teammate has very little to do with playing time.
This episode is dedicated to Dan Lauletta and his family.
Be who you are, and be that well.

Episode 24- Don't Wait 20 Years
Don't Wait 20 Years
Why do we so often look back on the best moments of our lives and wish we'd appreciated them more while they were happening?
On this solo episode of Spiked Heaters, Torr reflects on the end of fall baseball at DeSales, a memorable Fall World Series under the lights at Weiland Park, and a moment of gratitude that reminded him just how much his journey has shaped where he is today.
From Fall Game Bingo and a tremendous day against Wilkes to a postgame dinner with our baseball families, the final days of fall ball offered plenty of reminders that building a program is about more than wins and losses.
Torr also shares reflections from recent Hall of Fame ceremonies at DeSales and Arcadia, including the induction of former player Phil Pierfy. The common thread? Years later, it's not the statistics or individual accomplishments that people remember most. It's the teammates, coaches, families, and relationships that made the experience special.
Plus, a look at the transition into offseason development, trusting young assistant coaches, giving players ownership of their improvement, and the importance of creating an environment where people genuinely want to be.
And finally, a reminder from Chelsea about their kids growing up that brings the entire conversation full circle.
Enjoy the day. Pour into the people beside you. And don't wait 20 years to realize how special this can be.
