Pat Croce on Awakening, Serendipity, and Connecting with the Peaceful Presence Within
What if the peace, happiness, and fulfillment we spend our lives searching for are not something we need to achieve - but something that is already within us? In this inspiring episode of the Spiritual Media Blog Podcast, I sit down with Pat Croce, the former president and co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers, New York Times bestselling author, entrepreneur, adventurer, and spiritual seeker. Pat has lived an extraordinary life, moving from pioneering work in sports medicine to the boardroom of the NBA, while also pursuing adventures that have taken him around the world. But beneath all of those accomplishments is a deeper journey: Pat’s movement from seeking fulfillment through external achievement toward discovering a sense of peace and presence within. Pat’s latest book, Enjoy Your Self Now!: 66 Sacred Shifts to Instantly Awaken the Peaceful Presence Within You, reflects this transformation. His official website describes the book as a guide to living more fully in the present moment through 66 practical “sacred shifts” - changes in perspective designed to move us away from the restless mind and toward what Pat calls our peaceful Presence. During our conversation, Pat and I explore what it means to go inward rather than continually seeking something outside ourselves. One of the central ideas Pat shares is that we often spend our lives pursuing the next achievement, possession, experience, or accomplishment because we believe it will finally make us happy. Yet that happiness can be temporary. Pat describes his own awakening as a realization that what he had been seeking externally was already present within him. We talk about the distinction between the egoic self we normally identify with and the deeper awareness that is observing our thoughts, emotions, sensations, and experiences. Pat describes this as moving from being caught up in the “monkey mind” toward simply experiencing the present moment. And this leads to one of the most fascinating themes of our conversation: serendipity. Pat shares the remarkable story of how a seemingly ordinary encounter at the Green Parrot in Key West led to him discovering The Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama - and how this unexpected moment became an important turning point on his spiritual journey. He describes these experiences as moments when grace seems to break through our ordinary way of thinking. We explore whether becoming more present and open can make us more receptive to these seemingly meaningful coincidences - and whether serendipity might sometimes be understood as a sign that we are becoming more aligned with life. Pat also shares one of the most powerful lessons from his spiritual journey: letting go of our attachment to outcomes. Rather than abandoning goals or ambition, he suggests that we can learn to act wholeheartedly without becoming attached to what must happen as a result. He connects this idea with wisdom from the Bhagavad Gita and the broader spiritual traditions that have influenced his journey. Another deeply moving part of our conversation concerns adversity and illness. Pat discusses living with a rare incurable bone marrow cancer and his decision to climb to Mount Everest Base Camp despite his diagnosis. Rather than viewing his illness simply as a problem, Pat talks about shifting his perspective and seeing it as a challenge - and potentially even an opportunity for growth. This led to one of the most meaningful themes of our discussion: the difference between asking, “Why is this happening to me?” and asking, “What is the challenge in front of me right now?” We also discuss post-traumatic growth, gratitude, resilience, and how our interpretation of difficult experiences can influence the way we move through them. He further shares how he connects to a peace that passes understanding to help him face and move through challenges. One of my favorite ideas from our conversation is Pat’s invitation to “observe the how, embrace the now, celebrate your

Machan Taylor on Spiritual Growth, Healing, Authenticity, and Finding Your True Self
What if some of the most difficult experiences in our lives are also invitations to discover who we truly are? In this episode of the Spiritual Media Blog Podcast, I speak with Machan Taylor, a singer, songwriter, educator, and author of Naked Out Loud, about her extraordinary life journey and the spiritual lessons she has discovered along the way. Machan has lived a remarkable life. Her career as a singer has taken her around the world and included performing with legendary artists such as Pink Floyd, Sting, Foreigner, and Pat Benatar. Yet beneath the glamour and success of a career in music was a much deeper personal journey—one involving questions of identity, belonging, self-worth, trauma, healing, and the search for authenticity. Born in Japan and raised in the United States, Machan experienced the feeling of being caught between different cultures and worlds. Those early experiences became part of a much larger journey of self-discovery that would eventually lead her toward spirituality, meditation, Buddhism, chanting, yoga, and other paths of inner exploration. In this deeply personal conversation, Machan reflects on the experiences that shaped her and the process of looking within rather than continuing to run from the parts of herself that were painful. We explore the spiritual meaning of healing and personal transformation, including: The lifelong search for identity, belonging, and a sense of hom How childhood experiences can influence the way we see ourselves as adults The connection between trauma, emotional healing, and spiritual growth How music can become a form of self-expression, healing, and connection Machan's extraordinary experiences as a professional singer and performer Meditation, Buddhism, chanting, yoga, and other spiritual practices The importance of confronting rather than hiding painful parts of ourselves How altered states of consciousness, psychedelic experiences, and therapy can lead to deeper self-exploration Discovering our authentic voice and learning to live more honestly The possibility of transforming painful experiences into sources of wisdom Why spiritual growth is often a journey of remembering who we were before the world told us who we should be One of the themes that emerges from our conversation is that spiritual growth isn't necessarily about escaping our difficult experiences—it can be about becoming willing to enter more deeply into them. When we have the courage to examine our wounds, our fears, and the stories we have carried about ourselves, we may discover that there is something deeper underneath them. We may begin to see ourselves with greater compassion and recognize that our experiences, even the painful ones, can become part of our path toward greater awareness. Machan's story is ultimately a story about becoming more fully yourself. Her journey reminds us that authenticity is not something we necessarily find outside of ourselves. It can emerge when we become quiet enough to listen to our inner voice, courageous enough to face what we have avoided, and compassionate enough to accept all of who we are. For anyone interested in spirituality, spiritual awakening, personal growth, emotional healing, meditation, consciousness, authenticity, or the search for meaning, this conversation offers an intimate look at one woman's ongoing journey toward greater self-understanding and freedom. I hope Machan's story inspires you to reflect on your own journey—and perhaps to ask yourself an important question: What part of yourself is waiting to be seen, heard, and fully embraced? Connecting with Your Guardian Angels Our conversation is highly interactive. At the beginning of the podcast, Alisha leads a guided meditation designed to help you connect with your Guardian Angels, become more aware of their Presence, and open yourself to inspirational and practical guidance. She also shares different techniques for connecting with Angels and discusses the importance of remaining grounded while exploring our spiritual nature. We talk about her new book, "Your Angelic Ancestry", which invites readers to explore what she describes as their Angelic ancestry, connect with the Great Archangels, and integrate their spiritual Self into everyday life. As Alisha writes in the book: “If you feel drawn to Angels, if you long to weave the sacred into your daily life, if you sense you came here for more — this book is for you…This book will help you awaken and integrate your own Angelic nature. You’ll learn to connect with Archangels directly and intimately, discover your unique Archangelic Name, access your Angelic Ancestry, and perhaps even speak the ancient Angelic language — becoming both rooted and winged as your Spirit soars.” Whether you are already familiar with Angels or simply curious about exploring this dimension of spirituality, our conversation offers an opportunity to reflect and perhaps experience your own connection to Angels in a new and real way.
