Welcome to Sports Doc Talk. We're Will Sanchez and Dr. Grant Garcia, an orthopedic surgeon, and we built this show to give athletes, coaches, and everyday people access to the sports medicine conversations that used to stay inside the clinic.
Most people never get to sit down with an orthopedic surgeon and ask the questions that actually matter. That's exactly what Sports Doc Talk is. Will and Dr. Garcia cover injuries, recovery, performance, and the future of sports medicine. No fluff, no jargon.

3D Printing in Medicine and Sports Surgery: What Is Real, What Is Coming, and What It Means for Patients
In 2025, scientists put a living patch on a failing human heart. It grew blood vessels. It kept patients alive. They called it a heart Band-Aid.That is one of the many ways 3D printing is changing medicine right now. This week on Sports Doc Talk, Will Sanchez and Dr. Grant Garcia, orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist. Take on a topic they have been building for nearly a year. 3D printing in medicine and sports surgery, 2026 edition. Where things actually stand. What is happening in operating rooms today. And what is coming next.Dr. Garcia uses 3D printing in his practice every week. Surgical guides, custom implants, pre-surgical models. He breaks down how a CT scan can design a surgery before the patient is ever on the table, why custom-printed implants are giving younger patients with severe joint damage options they never had before, and how patient-specific instrumentation is cutting measurement error from two degrees down to 0.6 percent. He also gets into the things most medical podcasts skip: the insurance reimbursement gap, Medicare's proposed 20% cuts, and why the technology is running ahead of the system designed to pay for it.If you have ever wondered what medicine looks like in five years, this episode gives you a real answer.Find us at sportsdoctalk.com and on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and iHeart.Brought to you by The Recovery Shop.

Return to Play vs. Return to Performance: NFL 2026 Preview.
Kickoff week is here, and the injury report is already longer than anyone wants. Will Sanchez and Dr. Grant Garcia sit down, just the two of them this week, to break down everything you need to know before Week 1, from an orthopedic perspective as much as a football one.
They start with the question every fantasy manager and every patient asks and can't quite answer on their own: what's the actual difference between the PUP list and Injured Reserve? From there, it's a full walk through the ACL wave hitting camps this preseason, why "ACL tear" can mean wildly different recoveries depending on what else got damaged, and the one injury a knee brace is actually proven to prevent (it's not the one you'd guess).
Then the good news: the comeback trail. Patrick Mahomes returning from ACL/LCL reconstruction, Malik Nabers working back from a meniscal root tear, George Kittle's Achilles recovery, and Tua Tagovailoa's return after 21 months out with a multi ligament knee injury.
As Dr. Garcia puts it: return to play is a date. Return to performance is a process. That distinction holds for any patient working back from a serious orthopedic injury, not just the players making headlines.

The Injury Hiding in Plain Sight: Why 80% of Hamate Fractures Are Missed with Dr. Nicholas Rose
Francisco Lindor. Mike Trout. Corbin Carroll. A prominent NHL player. All of them missed time this year with the same injury. One that standard X-rays miss up to 80% of the time.
This week on Sports Doc Talk, Will Sanchez and Dr. Grant Garcia sit down with Dr. Nicholas Rose, a fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity surgeon based in Newport Beach who has spent nearly 30 years treating MLB and NHL athletes. He's a physician for Red Bull Sports and one of the go-to hand specialists for agents and players across professional sports.
Dr. Rose walks us through exactly what the hook of the hamate is, why modern power hitting has turned it into one of baseball's most common season-ending injuries, and why the way most players grip the bat is now creating a 366% increase in pressure on that tiny bone.
He also gets into the surgical decision-making process — when to remove the hook, when to try to fix it, and why the season calendar matters as much as the imaging. And he explains what every professional clubhouse should be doing right now to catch this injury before it becomes a problem.
If you follow baseball or hockey, or you've ever had palm or wrist pain you couldn't explain, this one is for you.
