Different Ages, Same Church with Sarah Kendall and Alan Harnett

What happens when a millennial and a baby boomer make space to listen to each other, not as spokespeople for their generations, but as fellow members of the same church family? In this episode of The People of Springwood Podcast, Sarah and Alan share their stories and perspectives from two different seasons of life. Sarah is in her 30s and returned to the South East in 2022. She and her husband Matt have two boys, and together they serve in Springwood’s young-adult community. She loves being outdoors and is passionate about creating intergenerational connection: a community where people from different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives are genuinely welcomed and valued. Alan is a long-time member of Springwood Church and is now happily retired after a career in the manufacture, sales and customer support of underground mining equipment. His long history in the church and the life experience he brings make for a thoughtful conversation about faith, service, community and change over time. Together, Sarah and Alan reflect on questions that matter well beyond one generation or one church: What do we assume about people whose lives and perspectives differ from our own? What can younger and older generations learn from each other? How can church become a place where people feel known, valued and included? What is worth carrying forward as communities change? What does it look like to practise humility, curiosity and mutual honour across generational lines? The conversation is grounded in their shared Adventist faith and Springwood Church community, while remaining open and accessible to anyone interested in belonging, faith, family, community and the challenge of building relationships across difference. Adventism is part of their shared story, but not a barrier to joining the conversation. This episode is an invitation to move beyond stereotypes and surface-level connection. Whether you are younger or older, new to church or a long-time member, consider this your encouragement to listen more deeply, ask a better question, share a meal, serve alongside someone different from you, or make space for a story you have not yet heard. Because church is not strongest when everyone is the same. It is strongest when every generation is seen, heard and welcomed.

   Never Disqualified with Rodney Reynders

Have you ever felt like you're too broken, too anxious, or too far gone for God to actually use you? In this episode of People of Springwood, Dayne sits down with Rodney Reynders — counsellor, coach, author, and host of the Your Truth Explored podcast — for an honest conversation about purpose, self-worth, and the barriers we build that convince us we're not enough. Rodney shares from his own journey through hardship and rebuilding, reflects on what he's learned through counselling, coaching, and his psychology studies, and unpacks his SELF Modality for moving from self-judgment to self-understanding. In this conversation, we talk about: Why so many of us quietly disqualify ourselves from God's purpose. What the Greatest Commandment — "love your neighbour as yourself" — really asks of us. The most common barriers that stop people from loving themselves well. How Rodney's SELF Modality helps people move from judgment to understanding. What one practical next step looks like for anyone who feels "not enough." If you've ever counted yourself out before God ever did, this episode is for you. Our prayer is that you'll walk away believing your story — including its hardest chapters — isn't disqualifying. It's the foundation for something greater. When Faith Gets Honest with Clinton Jackson

What do you do when faith starts to shift, and the God you love no longer fits inside the boxes you inherited? In this episode of People of Springwood, Dayne sits down with Clinton Jackson for an honest conversation about faith development, doubt and deconstruction. Clinton shares from his own journey, reflects on the spaces that helped him ask hard questions, and explores why deconstruction can be part of a healthy and honest spiritual life. In this conversation, we talk about: Why young people are asking deeper questions about faith and church. How safe spaces can help people bring doubts into the open. What faith development can look like across different seasons of life. What deconstruction involves, and why it is not always the end of faith. How honest doubt can lead to a more grounded and resilient relationship with Jesus. If you’ve ever wrestled with questions, tension, or the feeling that your faith is changing, this episode is for you. Our prayer is that you’ll be encouraged to stay curious, stay honest, and stay close to Jesus.
