Daphne Koller and Stephan Mergenthaler on the future of science discoveries using AI
SRI CEO David Parekh and insitro CEO and co-founder Daphne Koller sat down with Stephan Mergenthaler, CTO of the World Economic Forum, to talk about a shift already underway: AI as an accelerator for scientific discovery.
The conversation moved from the present to what’s next. Parekh and Koller shared where AI is already making a measurable difference, from drug discovery and modeling to faster iteration and scientific review, and how those gains add up to one of the biggest prizes in science: getting breakthroughs to market sooner.

Cyber resilience in space - SRI
Space and cybersecurity experts point out that old security assumptions no longer hold as satellite networks grow in quantity and complexity.
This PARC Forum was moderated by Ulf Lindqvist, Sr. Technical Director in SRI’s Computer Science Lab, and featured a panel of experts: Greg Falco (Cornell University, Aerospace Security & Autonomy Asst. Professor), James Curbo (Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, Group Chief Scientist, Constrained Cyber Solutions Group), and Dan Trujillo (Air Force Research Lab, Space Warfare, Space Cyber Technical Leader).
Panelists noted that space cybersecurity can’t just borrow from today’s IT security. Physics, legacy hardware, and the fact that you can’t just reboot a satellite present a much different problem. AI complicates the picture: it’s accelerating vulnerability discovery for attackers and defenders alike, which makes “assume breach” resilience more urgent than trying to prevent every intrusion.
The event took place on Sept 9, 2026 in Washington, D.C.

How to AI
In this episode, The Wall Street Journal tech columnist Christopher Mims and SRI Education’s Susan Patrick discuss how AI can strengthen human agency. Drawing from his new book How to AI, Mims shares how experts are leveraging AI to improve productivity, share knowledge, and strengthen workflows.
Patrick translates these cross-industry insights into what they mean for education. As student AI use accelerates, what must education rethink? Where can AI advance education outcomes and where should it be avoided?
This vital conversation examines what it means to design jobs and classrooms where AI enhances critical thinking rather than replaces it.

The future of defense technologies
How is venture-backed innovation changing the nature of military technology development? What sectors are bridging the gap between cutting-edge innovation and military capabilities? And how are emerging technologies reshaping the future of warfare and global security?
John Markoff, Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter and author of several books on technology, discussed these questions and more in a dynamic conversation with California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Christopher Kirchhoff (head of AI strategy and global security at Scale AI and Defense Innovation Unit (https://www.diu.mil/) advisor), and Raj M. Shah (managing partner of Shield Capital and executive chairman and co-founder of Resilience). Kirchhoff and Shah are the co-authors of Unit X: How the Pentagon and Silicon Valley are Transforming the Future of War (https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Unit-X/Raj-M-Shah/9781668031391).
This conversation is deeply relevant as dual-use technology moves from the periphery to the center of national security strategy, with implications for California’s economy, America’s defense posture, and global stability.

Bob Metcalfe and Vint Cerf on networked computing’s evolution
SRI celebrated the creation and development of three world-changing innovations and the innovators behind them, with keynote speakers Bob Metcalfe and Vint Cerf. SRI was presented with three IEEE milestones for the laser printer, the Alto personal computer, and Ethernet – transformative technologies in modern computing.
The event celebrated the individuals and teams behind the development of these milestone technologies. Among them was Bob Metcalfe, a Turing Award-winner, who spearheaded the invention, standardization, and commercialization of Ethernet technology. It also included John Shoch and Ron Rider, two individuals who were instrumental in the development of these technologies while at PARC in the 1970s.
In addition to leaders from IEEE, speakers also included Vint Cerf, co-creator of the now-ubiquitous TCP/IP protocol — an innovation that has earned him distinction as one of the “fathers of the Internet.”
