This week, Joeny Joshter's stand finally manifests, as George and I get into the battle of Bamboo Vs Mario Pipes. They're clearly pipes, though, I mean look at those things. If that's supposed to be bamboo, the sweatshop children who animated this did a really shitty job. Just sayin'. We also take a detour to discuss some of the greatest cinematic achievements of our lifetimes.
Then, in this week's Toku Roulette, we observe as the Dairangers solve all of their problems like true Americans: With a giant gun.
[Music used: Intro -- "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" by Jeff Beck | Outro -- "Hell Hole" by Spinal Tap]
[Tokusatsu Roulette theme: "Go Down Gamblin'" by Blood, Sweat, & Tears]
Next week's Tokusatsu Roulette selection: Kamen Rider Kuuga, Episode 35.
It's time for a flashback episode! Everybody loves those! We get Gyro's tragic (?) backstory, and learn his true motivation for entering the Steel Ball Run. We also get a new thought experiment: Beard Or Metal Plates? Araki's odd predilection for drawing hair Like That is never going to stop befuddling us, apparently. We're sort of like babies, we have no concept of object permanence.
Then, in Tokusatsu Roulette, we get a toku episode with very little toku, as it's mostly comprised of guys yakking on phones. It's like if Good Night and Good Luck had a couple of guys in rubber monster suits for a few minutes. That's my way of saying that I actually still kinda liked it.
[Music used: Intro -- "Ten Years Gone" by Led Zepplin | Outro -- "Gallow's Pole" by Led Zeppelin]
[Tokusatsu Roulette theme: "Go Down Gamblin'" by Blood, Sweat, & Tears]
Next week's Toku Roulette selection: Gosei Sentai Dairanger, Episode 30.
This week, Gyro and Johnny encounter a guy who turns things into bombs, and is named after a classic Latin song. What song? Oye Como Va, you idiot! What, you thought he should have been named La Bamba, because it sounds like BOMBS? Well, yeah, he probably should have! I have to assume Hirohiko Araki has a deep-seated grudge against either Ritchie Valens or Lou Diamond Phillips. Maybe both! Maybe he just really hates Los Lobos. We'll never know, because, as heard in the latest edition of Araki Sez, he's too busy buying illicit karate tapes and bouncing on exercise balls.
Then, in this week's Tokusatsu Roulette, we get to see the Original Beetleborgs Metallix battle a horde of devil children, who are gathering energy in service of a floating maggot queen with one titty-eyeball. B-Fighter Kabuto kicks ass. Still, I have to admit, I wonder what could have been. Maybe someday, Sharivan, maybe someday...
[Music used: Intro -- "Oye Como Va" by Tito Puente | Outro -- "Frankenstein" by the Edgar Winter Group]
[Tokusatsu Roulette theme: "Go Down Gamblin'" by Blood, Sweat, & Tears]
Next week's Tokusatsu Roulette selection: UltraSeven, episode 45.
