   E42 | ANANIAS & SAPPHIRA: WHEN A COUPLE AGREES TOGETHER IN DECEPTION

   In this episode of Covenant Stories, Brandon and Mike examine Acts 4:32–5:11 and the account of Ananias and Sapphira. Luke first shows a church marked by resurrection witness and generous care, then places Barnabas beside a couple whose outward action looks similar. The issue was not that they kept part of the sale price. Peter makes clear that the property and the money remained under their control. The issue was the false story presented with the gift—a deception Peter identifies as lying to the Holy Spirit. Ananias and Sapphira knew the same facts and maintained the same account, yet each person still answered before God. Marriage creates a real “we,” but it never removes the personal responsibility to tell the truth, repent, and obey God. Brandon and Mike discuss the difference between privacy and falsehood, why spiritual influence does not erase personal responsibility, and why refusing to repeat a lie is not betrayal. Covenant loyalty does not require helping deception survive. Faithful unity brings a couple's shared life under God's truth, with humility, love, and a willingness to correct what is false. For reflection: What have I said or helped someone believe? What is true? What part belongs to me to own and correct? What is my next faithful action before God? Correction should follow the circle of the false representation, not become another performance. We cannot force another person to confess, repent, or change, but we can stop defending what is untrue, own our part, and take the next faithful step God has placed before us. The account is severe because God is holy, but fear is not the final word for the listener who comes to Christ. Later in Acts 5, Peter points to Jesus as the risen Prince and Savior who grants repentance and forgiveness. Hope is not found in polishing our image. It is found in Jesus Christ, who died for our sins, rose bodily from the grave, and saves everyone who turns to Him in repentance and faith.    The Watchman's Brief - E2 | The Spirit of Ahab What does the Bible actually show us about Ahab—and what should we mean when we use the phrase “the spirit of Ahab” today? In Episode 2 of The Watchman's Brief, Brandon Roberts and Mike Bowler return to the account of Ahab and Jezebel to separate biblical truth from popular assumptions. They explain that “the spirit of Ahab” is not the name of a demon and should not become a label we casually place on another person. Instead, the discussion examines the attitudes, choices, and patterns Scripture reveals in the historical King Ahab. Beginning in 1 Kings 16, Brandon and Mike trace Ahab's divided allegiance, idolatry, compromise, blame shifting, entitlement, resistance to correction, and active cooperation with evil. Ahab was not merely a passive bystander controlled by Jezebel. Her influence was real, but so was his responsibility. As king, husband, and leader, he repeatedly chose Baal worship, rejected God's correction, blamed Elijah for Israel's trouble, and used his authority in service of what was false. The conversation also looks at Mount Carmel, Naboth's vineyard, Ahab's relationship with Jezebel, and the contrast between Ahab and men such as Elijah, Micaiah, and Joshua. The central question is not, “Who can I accuse of having an Ahab spirit?” It is, “Where do I see Ahab-like patterns in my own heart, and what does faithful repentance require from me?” Brandon and Mike identify the godly opposites of those patterns: - Faithfulness to God instead of divided allegiance - Contentment and self-control instead of entitlement - Personal responsibility instead of blame shifting - Courage to oppose evil instead of cooperating with it - Teachability instead of resentment toward correction - Love of truth instead of self-justification - Humility and repentance instead of pride This episode calls men to lead with conviction under God's authority, receive biblical correction, renew their minds through Scripture, and refuse to trade truth for comfort, approval, influence, or gain. The goal is not condemnation or name-calling. It is honest self-examination, repentance, and transformation through Jesus Christ.    Episode 41 | Priscilla & Aquila: Covenant on Mission What can a marriage become when work, hospitality, discipleship, and spiritual purpose are surrendered to Christ together? Acts 18 introduces Priscilla and Aquila after they have been forced to leave Rome. In Corinth, Luke first shows them doing ordinary work, and that shared trade becomes the point of connection through which Paul enters their lives. Later, in Ephesus, they hear the gifted teacher Apollos, take him aside, and explain the way of God more accurately without turning correction into public humiliation. In this episode of Covenant Stories, Brandon and Mike explore how displacement did not end this couple's usefulness to God, why faithful mission begins with what God has already placed in our hands, and how a home, a trade, biblical understanding, and courageous service can strengthen Christ's people.
