Gentle stories read aloud at bedtime, for grown-ups and children alike. Cozy, unhurried tales that end somewhere warm and settled, some of them from the world of Starfall. A new story every night, and every one can be read along at starfallsky.com.
A hedgehog is throwing her very first supper party for thirty geese, but the geese are carrying all the meadow’s colours home, so how will they find her blue door in a meadow gone grey?
Every autumn, the animals of Hollow Meadow roll up their colours like wool, and Big Martha’s geese carry them south for the winter. Dot the hedgehog has invited the whole flock to supper at her blue door. Then a gusty spring wind, a runaway tablecloth and one very big honk drop the bundle of colours in the pond, and Dot has until sundown to get the meadow’s colours untangled.

The Snow That Would Not Settle
On the night the first snow of winter finally falls, it’s too excited to lie down, and a girl who waxed her sledge in October has until morning to get it to settle.
Tess lives in a steep little town where the snow usually blows sideways, and she has wanted real, deep, sledging snow all year. When the first snow finally comes down, every flake bounces back up off the ground and piles up underneath things, the wrong way round. With her mom, her old dog Biscuit and Mr. Pocket the postman, Tess tries everything she can think of to make it lie down before morning.

The Jar Marked Sable Losing
On the last windy evening of the season, Pip Underweather climbs Whistling Ridge with two empty jars: one for the long note the ridge sings once a year, and one for the sound of Sable losing at cards, which nobody has heard in three years.
Pip Underweather collects sounds in jars and has missed the ridge’s last note of autumn three years running. Pip has also never beaten Sable, the windreader, on her low board weighted with stones. On the final night before Sable packs the board away for winter, Pip means to get both, but there is only one Pip, there are two jars, and the wind keeps its own time.
