Er hat den Jazz mehrmals neu erfunden im Laufe seines Lebens: Der Trompeter und Bandleader kam vom Bebop zum Hardbop, erfand den Cool Jazz mit, fusionierte den Jazz mit anderen Musikrichtungen wie Rock und Pop. Er würde Musik atmen, hat er mal gesagt. Doch Miles Davis wirkte nicht nur über seine Musik, sondern auch über seinen Look, sein Auftreten, wie er sich auf der Bühne und in den Medien inszenierte.
