My mother is the definition of strength. Raising five sons in North Philadelphia during the '60s and '70s, she endured the heartbreaking loss of her 18-month-old son, Kevin, yet continued to provide a loving home for the rest of us. Despite losing her own mother and grandmother at just 18, she poured everything into her children.Because of the values, duties, and responsibilities demonstrated by both our parents, none of us four surviving brothers have ever been incarcerated. We grew up well-loved, following a blueprint of kindness and service—even spending summer days as children cleaning train stations just because the job needed doing.Mom, you sometimes wonder if you did a good job. At 89, the answer is clear: you and Dad were foundation builders.
