TAKE ONE Presents... is series of critical analyses of beloved film franchises from the TAKEONECinema.net crew. We are currently running The Heistpod where we critically analyse all the Ocean's franchise films in release order.
Over the four series of the podcast so far, we have covered the Alien franchise on The Xenopod, the Jurassic Park franchise on The Dinopod, the Mission: Impossible franchise on The Impossipod, and the Terminator franchise on Pod With Us If You Want To Live.
Simon and Jim return to discuss Steven Soderbergh's OCEAN'S ELEVEN, the first in his trilogy of Ocean's films. They discuss the film's huge jump in quality from the 1960 original, the stylishness and confidence of Soberbergh's filmmaking and the importance of the music in setting that tone, the extremely tight script, and the surprising lack of common ground between the original film and this remake. OCEAN'S ELEVEN really establishes how to make a heist film in the 21st Century. They also discuss Brett Ratner and his documentary MELANIA for a while for some reason.

The Heistpod 1: OCEAN'S 11 (1960)
TAKE ONE Presents... returns for another job, this time sticking up the Ocean's franchise and taking all the critical insight we can get from this franchise. In this first episode, Simon and Jim set out the plan for the series and then go back further than they've ever been to discuss 1960's OCEAN'S 11. They discuss the personal and political lives of the Rat Pack aka. the Clan, how this film came to be and the many writers that contributed to it, the languid pacing for a heist movie, the film's status as marketing for Las Vegas and specific casinos, and the racist issues with the film's unfortunate conclusion.
