Talking Salford is joined by mental health practitioner Sarah Thompson-Cook for an honest chat about mental health nursing in 2026 and how her time at Salford has inspired her career.
Sarah, who came to study at Salford as a mature student, reflects on her experience of the healthcare sector, details why working in mental health can be 'the best job in the world' and how she ended up then working as a lecturer.
Sarah also reflects on her late diagnosis of ADHD and autism in her 40s, how it spurred on her to champion neurodiversity and why she decided to set up community group, More in Common Salford in response to anti-immigration protests across England.

S3E4 - Viola Follini on The Green Pill and how cities are tackling climate change
Viola Follini joins Talking Salford to talk about the ongoing fight to tackle climate change, her experience at Salford as an international student and her work at the global climate action network group C40s.
A graduate of our BSc Environmental Management programme, the Milan native discusses her love of sport and how it helped her bond upon arriving at the University.
She talks through how the Deepwater Horizon oil spill changed her life and also explains her breakthrough research project - The Green Pill.
This is a discussion all about how observing one incident can change a person's whole perspectives and a valuable chat about what people, regardless of their age, can do to help tackle climate change.

S3E3 - Women in Football's Yvonne Harrison on the future of the women's game
We are delighted to be joined by Women In Football CEO Yvonne Harrison for a chat about her career in sport and how she rose through the ranks of Greater Sport to becoming a national figurehead for women's football.
A graduate of our BA Leisure Management course, Yvonne talks us through what it was like growing up as a big sports fan in Manchester, her dreams about getting involved with the Commonwealth Games in 2002 and how she rose through the ranks from volunteer to CEO at GreaterSport.
We also got Yvonne's thoughts on the current stature of women's football and where the sport needs to go in the coming years.
This is a compelling discussion about how to take advantage of work placements whilst as a student, how to build a career within a sports organisation and how networking is a crucial skills when working with a variety of local partners.
