Nurturing Ourselves: A Conversation on Women’s Health Exploring the Importance of Self-care and Health Awareness.

WELCOME BACK!!! Nurturing Ourselves: A Conversation on Women’s Health Exploring the importance of self-care and health awareness. In this heartfelt episode, we sit down with Leah Gales, a passionate advocate for women's health, to discuss the often overlooked topic of self-care and the challenges women face in prioritizing their health. Leah describes being a healthy woman as embodying freedom in all aspects—physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. She emphasizes that true health comes from nurturing the whole person, not just individual parts. "To be a healthy person in general looks like freedom to nurture yourself and be free to be who you are," Leah shares. This perspective sets the stage for a deeper discussion about self-care and the importance of maintaining balance in our lives. Women are often seen as nurturers, taking care of everyone else while neglecting their own needs. Leah reflects on this tendency, stating, "Women neglect themselves because they feel so compelled to take care of everyone else around them." The conversation touches on the struggle to find peace amidst the chaos of caring for others, highlighting the need for women to recognize when their own cup is empty. We resonate with this, sharing our own struggles of prioritizing others over herself. Leah opens up about her personal health journey, having been diagnosed with chronic kidney failure at just fifteen. Now, she emphasizes the importance of regular health check-ups, noting, "I go every three months to keep tabs on everything." Her story is a reminder that health issues can affect anyone at any age and that proactive care is vital. As the conversation progresses, Leah stresses the importance of knowing one’s family health history. This knowledge can empower women to ask the right questions during check-ups and be proactive about their health. "High blood pressure is silent, and mental health is just as important," she notes, advocating for both physical and emotional well-being. The importance of healthy food choices and their long-term effects is also highlighted, reminding listeners of the impact of diet on overall health. The discussion shifts to the guilt many women feel when asking for help. Leah explains that this often stems from the expectation to be the one who fixes everything. "We often feel guilty because we don't want to add to someone else's stress when they always come to us," she explains, emphasizing the need for effective communication in friendships and relationships. This episode serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of prioritizing our health and well-being. As women, it’s crucial to recognize our own needs and not feel guilty for asking for help. Whether it's scheduling that wellness check-up or simply taking a moment to breathe, nurturing ourselves is not just essential—it's a necessity. Take time for yourself, listen to your body, and remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup. For more insights and to hear Leah's full story, tune in to the full episode.
