About TBSA: the Burn Surgery and Critical Care Podcast
Welcome to TBSA!
This podcast arose as an idea between two docs: Luke and Jake. They have a passion for caring for burn patients, an appreciation of the unique pathophysiology of burn, and a desire to educate. During their training, they found that there were no podcasts dedicated to the care of burn victims. This podcast arose as an idea to leverage their passion and talents to help bridge this education gap to better prepare trainees to enter their burn rotations. For the person in active burn practice, this podcast will be a forum to provide up to date insights into burn care.
Welcome back, everyone, to another exciting episode of TBSA!
Today, Luke and Jake discuss exfoliating skin conditions. Specifically, we are highlighting Stevens-JohnsonSyndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis. While these diseases are not due to thermal injuries, they are—inherently—one of the pathologies that cause skin failure.
Biomarkers, treatments, pathology findings, and a whole host of management decisions come into play with this. When do we transfer? Who gets transferred? What subspecialty expertise do you need to round out the multidisciplinary approach to managing these patients? All of this (and more!) will be covered in this episode. Take a listen!

Episode 22: Central Access
TBSA is back in the studio, and we are coming at you with a real riveting episode on all the in's and out's of central access.
Jake and Luke cover it all in this one: biases they have, the data behind how to manage these devices, and some interesting findings on bundle optimization. As we frequently say, perfect isn't on the menu, and nothing is free. Similarly, central lines are not without inherent risk to the burn patient. Take a listen and see if any of your presumptions are aired out on this episode!

Episode 21: Burn Sepsis
Welcome back, everyone, to another exciting episode of TBSA!
Today, Luke and Jake dive into burn sepsis. Always a humbling aspect of burn care, it is so critical to give the right antibiotics to the right patient at the right time. Unfortunately, typical biomarkers and physiologic parameters in typical septic ICU patients get thrown out in burn care. Listen to Jake and Luke as they walk through the issues with burn sepsis and how we approach it.
