You Don't Hate Math. You Were Taught Wrong. | Akil Parker

What if the reason so many people struggle with math has nothing to do with ability... and everything to do with how it's taught? For generations, students have been told to memorize formulas, follow steps, and get the right answer. But what if math could be something entirely different—something rooted in curiosity, culture, and real life? In this episode of Teaching in Color, Brandon Jenkins sits down with educator, author, and founder of All This Math, Akil Parker, to explore why so many people develop a fear of mathematics, how Black history can transform the way students experience math, and why every child deserves the opportunity to become a math explorer instead of a math memorizer. Together, they discuss the true purpose of learning mathematics, how parents can become their child's first math teacher, and why changing our relationship with math has the power to change lives. Whether you're a teacher, parent, student, or someone who's ever said, "I'm just not a math person," this conversation might completely change the way you think about mathematics.
