Kate Brim: Six World Titles and the Apex of Resilience
In 2017, a routine back surgery left Kate Brim quadriplegic. In 2021 she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Today she's a six-time world champion and Paralympic gold medallist, and she still refuses to let setbacks define her.
We catch up with the Team Novo Nordisk ambassador, who got home at 3am after a hectic trip back from the Paracycling Road World Championships. She won both the time trial and the road race there. Kate talks openly about racing while her nutrition comes through a central line, managing her diabetes on and off the bike, and leaning on "the team behind the team." She also explains why she hand-beaded 26 podium bracelets for her fellow world championship riders.

Fourteen years ago, Morgan Brown was calling up team directors around the world, asking a simple question: does anyone know a kid with type 1 diabetes who rides a bike?
Today, she runs the Talent ID program that's produced so many professional riders.
