   Re-Introductions are in Order

As the podcast returns and we get back into the rhythm of new episodes, I wanted to take a moment to reintroduce myself to both new and longtime listeners. In this episode, I share the story of how I reached the point in my life where I decided to start my own private practice. Voice therapy has always been my passion, but the path to building a career doing what I truly loved wasn't easy. It took persistence, setbacks, and a willingness to create opportunities when they didn't already exist. This is just the beginning. In future episodes, I'll be sharing more stories, lessons I've learned, and practical advice for anyone who finds themselves in the same position I was when I first started. Whether you're a clinician, entrepreneur, or simply curious about the journey, I'm excited to have you along for the ride.

Tell Me 'Bout It: Renee Yoxon - From TikTok to Transforming Voices

In this episode, we sit down with Renée Yoxon, a nonbinary, trans voice teacher based in Montreal, Canada, on a mission to help trans and nonbinary individuals find their voice with comfort, confidence, and gender euphoria. With over a decade of voice-teaching experience, a background in physics, jazz, and songwriting, Renée is rewriting the narrative around voice training. Renée offers more than traditional lessons—they lead transformative, gender-affirming voice courses like Mindful Voice Feminization, Masculinize Your Voice Without Testosterone, and Mix & Match! Designing Your Nonbinary Voice. Through playful, accessible tools, like the “Key‑Oh,” “Meow,” and “Woof” vocal exercises. Renée shows how a voice can shift and evolve with curiosity rather than medical intervention. We explore their rise to prominence through TikTok, where hundreds of thousands discover quick, encouraging tips that helped their voice journey begin, no mic, no app, just sound and fun. In our chat, Renée shares how they first began teaching trans voice work, their belief that “trans voice alteration chose me more than I chose it,” and the vibrant free, subsidized course offerings they offer to ensure accessibility and community support worldwide. Whether you’re starting your own voice journey or simply fascinated by the intersection of identity, sound, and self-expression, this episode is full of grounded insights, playful techniques, and genuine humanity.
