Parenting isn't about being perfect—it's about being intentional.
In Part 2 of this parenting series, we explore three common mistakes that many loving parents make and, more importantly, how to replace them with approaches that strengthen your relationship with your child.
In this episode we discuss:
• Why discipline should focus on teaching rather than simply punishing
• The incredible power of apologizing when we've been wrong as parents
• Why "time-ins" can often be more effective than traditional time-outs, especially when children are overwhelmed emotionally
Healthy parenting isn't about winning battles—it's about building trust, teaching wisdom, and helping our children learn to regulate their emotions while knowing they are deeply loved.
I also encourage parents to spend some time reflecting on their own strengths and weaknesses. Every parent has areas where they naturally excel and areas where they struggle. Growth begins with honest self-reflection, and our children benefit when we are willing to learn alongside them.
If this video encourages you, consider subscribing to Ten Minute Therapy for practical, research-informed, and faith-informed conversations about parenting, anxiety, relationships, and emotional health.

Common Parenting Mistakes (Part 1)
Parenting is a constant balancing act. In this first installment of our Common Parenting Mistakes series, we explore three patterns that can unintentionally make parenting more difficult.
In this episode, we'll discuss:
• Why too much nurture without enough structure can lead to permissive parenting.
• Why too much structure without enough nurture can create an authoritarian home.
• Why refusing to engage in arguments and power struggles with your child is often one of the wisest parenting decisions you can make.
Healthy parenting isn't about being perfect—it's about providing both love and leadership. Children thrive when they experience warmth, clear boundaries, and parents who remain calm instead of being drawn into unnecessary battles.
If this episode encourages you, consider subscribing for more practical, research-informed, and biblically grounded conversations designed to help you grow in emotional health and strengthen your relationships.

Parenting: What is the Mission?
What is the mission of parenting?
Many parents spend years reacting to the daily challenges of raising children without ever stopping to ask a simple question: What are we actually trying to accomplish?
In this episode of Ten Minute Therapy, we explore why every parent needs a clear vision, goal, or mission to guide the parenting journey. We discuss several possible objectives—including raising children who are emotionally and mentally healthy, developing independence, and learning discipline—not as punishment, but as a lifelong skill that must be taught.
When we understand the destination, our daily decisions become much clearer.
As Dr. Karyn Purvis wisely said:
"We cannot lead children on a journey we have not taken ourselves."
Join us as we consider what it means to parent with purpose and how our own growth influences the children we are called to lead.
