TerraQuip Talk – Piling Rigs, Power Lines & 17.4m CFA Drilling
What happens when a piling rig is working underneath high-voltage transmission lines? ⚡ And how does a 40-ton-class rig manage to drill a 900mm CFA pile to 17.4 metres deep?
In this episode of TerraQuip Talk, Mike takes a look at real-world piling and drilling footage from Australia and the US, breaking down transmission-line drilling, low-headroom rigs, CFA applications and the challenges operators face on demanding jobsites.
We also discuss IMT piling rigs, IMT's history with Caterpillar, why torque matters in drilling, and why contractors should test machines in real-world conditions before making a major investment.
Plus, Mike confirms the rumours: TerraQuip is taking on Sunward. 👀
And to finish things off, we look at one of the most unusual pieces of construction content we've seen — an Italian rap song dedicated to a foundation drilling company. 🎵
• High-voltage transmission-line drilling
• Piling rig safety around power lines
• Low-headroom piling rigs
• IMT piling equipment
• IMT A140 CFA drilling

Marini MRA 300: 35-Ton Excavator Drilling Hollow Bar Anchors on a Tight Job Site
MARINI MRA 300 IN ACTION — A closer look at one of Marini’s specialised mast attachments for high-production ground anchoring. In this episode of TerraQuip Talk, we take you to a real Queensland job site to see the Marini MRA 300 mast attachment working in Top Hammer / drifter mode for hollow bar ground anchoring. The MRA 300 is configured with a Eurodrill RH10X setup, a rod carousel, 310 mm double clamp/breaker, and an external flushing swivel for grout injection. On this project, the MRA 300 is drilling T76 hollow bars with a 150 mm cross-type drill bit, reaching approximately 14–15 metres while working in challenging ground conditions and a restricted site footprint. One of the standout features is the rod carousel, allowing the operator to handle 3-metre drill rods with significantly less manual handling. The setup can accommodate approximately 12 metres of drilling without manually handling the rods, with a site-specific extension allowing the operation to reach around 14–15 metres. The production is equally impressive — approximately one complete hollow bar installation every 2.5 hours, including drilling, installation, grouting and setup. The site is achieving around three anchors per day.Mike also breaks down how the MRA 300 setup works, the hollow bar drilling and grouting process, rod alignment, operator technique, and why proper maintenance and equipment handling are critical for long-term reliability.⚙️ Equipment: Marini MRA 300 Mast Attachment🔨 Drilling: Eurodrill RH10X🔩 Hollow Bar: T76📏 Anchor Depth: Approximately 14–15m🏗️ Application: Ground Anchoring / Hollow Bar Drilling📍 Job Site: Queensland, AustraliaInterested in Marini MRA 300 mast attachments, drilling equipment, ground anchoring or specialised drilling solutions?Visit terraquip.com.au for enquiries and more information.Subscribe to TerraQuip Talk for real-world drilling applications, equipment insights, piling technology and job-site case studies.#TerraQuip #TerraQuipTalk #MariniMRA300 #Marini #MRA300 #GroundAnchoring #HollowBarDrilling #GroundAnchors #DrillingEquipment #DrillingTechnology #GeotechnicalEngineering #FoundationDrilling #Piling #TopHammer #Drifter #Eurodrill #ConstructionAustralia #DrillingAustralia #Geotechnical--------------------------------------------------⏱️ TIMECODES00:00 – Introduction01:54 – Did You Know? Marini MR-P 350: The 10-Ton Piling Rig That Drills Where Others Can’t
In this episode of TerraQuip Talk, Mike takes an in-depth look at the Marini MR-P 350, a compact but powerful piling rig that has made a big impact on restricted-access and low-headroom foundation projects across Australia.
From being the first major Marini machine brought into Australia by TerraQuip in 2021, to working on real-world projects across rail, basements, bridges and urban construction, Mike breaks down what makes the MR-P 350 so unique.
At around 10 tonnes, the MR-P 350 can drill up to 1,200 mm diameter, operate in low-headroom conditions, and deliver the power needed for demanding Australian ground conditions.
Mike also discusses the machine's removable power pack, 360° rotation, wireless remote control, fuel efficiency, real-world case studies and Marini's work at CERN and the Large Hadron Collider.
If you're working on a project involving restricted access, low headroom or difficult ground conditions, get in touch with TerraQuip or visit our yard to see the MR-P 350.
Enjoy the talk!
