   Andy: Brass and Buddhism

We welcomed our coworker Andy onto the pod and we had so much fun! From nerding out about brass to talking about Buddhism we covered a lot of ground. He shared his experience becoming a professional French horn player, and then leaving that behind to adopt a healthier relationship with music and life. We really appreciated Andy's candid and sense of humor, and we think you will to. Let us know what you think! My wonderful Mom Jill joins us for this episode of TTMB. I shared a few of my own songs that remind me of her, and found out what songs remind her of her mom. This trip down memory lane felt very full circle to me. I love my mom so much, and music is something we both love so this was an absolute joy to me. Thanks for coming on my pod Mom!! Todd: The Cassette Connection

In this episode of TTMB we travel all the way back to the era of records and cassette tapes and driving around to catch late-night radio deep dives. My good friend Todd made lasting connections to friends and music during his formative years, and music continues to be a throughline in his relationships now. If you remember the good old days of vinyl and cassette, leave us a comment! Kasey & Kris: Love’s Return Is a Slow Burn

For the first time on TTMB we had a couple on the podcast! We welcomed Kelan's brother Kasey and his girlfriend Kris, and they showed us that love can transcend time and space. They met when they were kids but didn't start dating until more recently, and although they partly regret being blind to each other for so long, they mostly appreciate the way that life brings you around to someone when the time is right. They shared some songs that tie them together, but we also got to spend some time individually reminiscing on memories of loved ones. It was so wonderful to listen to their love story and their life stories. We thank them for joining us in Kelan's sun room because we didn't have access to the studio while they were in town, and we thank you for listening. Please let us know what you think! Kristopher: Music Is A Ladder

For this episode, we had a conversation with Kelan’s brother, Kristopher. After a difficult divorce, Kris's broken heart turned him off of music entirely for nearly a decade. Having been a musician and music lover for his whole life prior, the absence of music from his life is indicative of the pain he felt and the passion he lost. One day he heard the Twenty One Pilots song, Tear in my Heart. The song's agonizing lyrics and catchy melody spoke to Kris's anguish. This song became a gateway to other songs that he could relate to and rock-out to, and his love of listening to and playing music slowly returned. His journey eventually led to meeting a new love who he married a few years ago. It was a joy to watch his face light up when talking about this love. It felt like we went on this journey with him. Though his anguish has subsided, his love of the music that helped him move forward with his life persists. It was an awesome conversation, and even more awesome is the uncut version that lives on our patreon! Jason & Trevor: From Fish Heads to Fresh Beats

We welcomed the two-man band Jason and Trevor into the studio for a trip down memory lane all the way back to their first memories of hip hop. It was an absolute blast interviewing them and hearing about how much their music taste has evolved over the years. It’s safe to say neither of them ever thought they’d be in a super rad band making sick beats and spittin bars. But here they are! Please check them out, on Bandcamp or live here in Grand Junction, they play gigs all the time (there’s one the day after we post this episode!!). Rachel: Grandmas and Extra Bones

We sat down with Rachel Davis to explore how Nirvana’s “Sliver” sparks vivid memories, leading to a nostalgic conversation about their childhood visits with their grandmother. From there, we talked about grunge music and how its raw sound conveys emotion, while also sharing our own stories about grandparents, summers, and growing up. The episode blends reflection and humor, moving from meaningful memories to lighter topics like the sensory joys of baby animals. We end with a hilarious hypothetical: if you could have extra bones, what would you choose? If you want to check out Rachel's awesome art they are on Instagram @grotesqueriequeen List of Songs Mentioned: Sliver by Nirvana Alive by Pearl Jam Legal Disclaimer: This podcast sometimes uses short clips of songs so we can reminisce about them, talk about why they matter to us, and dig into what makes them special. Alethea: Home Is Where the Habichuela Is

For this episode of TTMB our wonderful guest Alethea took us on a trip down memory lane, all the way to the coastline of New York city. She shared her family's beautiful Puerto Rican culture with us, and made us extremely jealous of the good food, good music, and good vibes that she used to bask in all summer long. Not only was it a blast to glimpse this vibrant culture through her memories, but it was a joy to chat so passionately about music and creativity! Once again, we are so honored to have spent time in the studio with someone who is willing to share not only the ways music touched their life in the past, but the ways music continues to enrich their life every day. Alethea's energy was so warm and welcoming so check her out on Instagram @leebeeee and her website aletheabmusic.com (https://aletheabmusic.com) if you want some piano lessons or to hire her for your wedding!! On this very special episode of That Takes Me Back we are joined by Kelan's dad, Robert. Robert shares his beautiful love story with his late wife, Tammy. TW: If you have lost a loved one, please take care while listening. He reflects on their 47 years together, walking us through it one song at a time-from early infatuation and uncertainty, to reunion, marriage, and raising a family together. Throughout all of it, Robert expressed his feelings with music: devotion, doubt, passion, grief, and deep gratitude for a life lived in love. Here is a list of songs mentioned: "You Sexy Thing" by Hot Chocolate (1975) - The song that played when Robert first met Tammy in the parking lot at Red Rocks Community College "I'm Easy" by Keith Carradine (1976) - The song Robert heard while camping in the mountains after he and Tammy broke up "Sentimental Lady" by Bob Welch (1977) - The song that came on while Robert and Tammy were driving down Wadsworth Boulevard after they got back together "I Love You" by Climax Blues Band (1983) - A song Robert felt described his feelings toward Tammy and what she had done for him "Still in Love" by Lionel Richie - The final song on the CD Robert made for their 25th anniversary, which they danced to in Hawaii "This is Your Quest" by Rob Ricardo (from the album "Seeker") - A song Robert found on YouTube after Tammy's passing that felt like her talking to him Legal Disclaimer: This podcast sometimes uses short clips of songs so we can reminisce about them, talk about why they matter to us, and dig into what makes them special. Alberto: Bye Bye Buddy!

For the second episode of That Takes Me Back, hosts Kelan David and Maia Sage had Buddy in the studio to share stories about his late father. TW: If you have lost a loved one, please take care while listening. Alberto senior influenced Buddy's life significantly, including that nickname which has prompted many "Bye Buddy, I hope you find your dad!" (it's kind of dark, we know, but he laughs). Buddy recounted playing a trumpet solo in his high school jazz band for a song his father requested. Now that song always takes him back to his dad, along with a couple others. The conversation delved into Buddy's father's life, Buddy's memories of him, and the impact of his passing on Buddy and his family. Here are the songs mentioned: "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller - This was the main song discussed by Buddy. He played this song on trumpet in his middle school jazz band at his father's request, and it was also played at his father's funeral. "Sharp Dressed Man" by ZZ Top - This song took Buddy back to memories of driving with his dad in his truck, often on trips to Texas to visit family.
