Colorful Nerds with special guest Ramon Pesante (Part 2) | The 2:00am Crew | Ep. 28

This week on The 2:00am Crew, hosts Jason Enrique and Rick Hierro welcome the incredibly talented writer, director, and producer, Ramon Pesante. Ramon joins the crew to dive deep into his semi-autobiographical feature film, "Playing Sam", a hilarious and heartfelt comedy about a non-Spanish-speaking Latina actress from the Bronx struggling to fit into Hollywood's narrow, often stereotypical, standards of beauty and ethnicity. Join us as we explore Ramon's journey from a childhood in foster care, overcoming generational trauma, to his successful career promoting hit TV shows and ultimately channeling his experiences into his debut feature. Ramon shares insights on: The Power of Collaboration: Working with co-writer and star Jenni Ruiza to craft an authentic, empowering story. The Casting Catch-22: Why being a Latino filmmaker who doesn't speak Spanish can be a frustrating barrier in the industry. Low-Budget Ingenuity: The challenges and triumphs of shooting a feature film in a lightning-fast five days. The Art of Authenticity: How "Playing Sam" uses sharp wit and satire to explore themes of heritage, mental health, and sexuality. Don't miss this candid conversation about persistence, community, and making your passion your profession. Would you like me to write a short, punchy promotional quote for this episode?
