The Actor’s Wish

About The Actor’s Wish

The wish. From a Russian theatre school in Uzbekistan to performing on 42nd Street, my life, onstage, onscreen and off, has been led by the WISH. As an International Performer, Russian-trained Actress (mhmm, in Uzbekistan), Published Writer, Certified Dream Awake EFT Tapping Coach (250 hrs), Reiki Practitioner, and Lifelong Creative Rebel, I am on a mission to help you step into your full-blown artistic expression (+ attract soul-aligned success) while building the ensemble. Think of this podcast as your laboratory. Consider me your scene partner. And in this space, let your impulses run free. Each week, you’ll tap into unconventional tips, tools, techniques and the sacred connection to the partner. Whether an intimate solo episode or an inspiring chat with a guest, you’ll learn to transmute doubt into desire, transform self-sabotage into self-love, skyrocket your impact on the industry (without selling your soul), and create the #actorslife you dream of (on your terms). Turn down your brain. Trust your body. Lead with the wish. Together, let’s take the leap from Actor to Artist.

WHEN LIFE BREAKS US WE BECOME MUSIC with ARI HONARVAR

Are you perpetuating cycles of fear, division and violence in YourSelf or are you becoming Music in the Pursuit of Social justice? Are you becoming an Axe or Music? Award-winning Author, Writer, Activist & Artist Ari Honarvar bypasses your analytical mind and goes straight to your heart in this penetrative, joyous and restorative exchange. If you want to make the world a better place (but find that too lofty of a concept), feel compelled to explore a new art-form (even if you aren’t trained in it), want to support the largest women-led revolution in modern history and heal from trauma in community joyfully, this episode is for you. Ari Honarvar is the founder of Rumi with a View, dedicated to building music and poetry bridges across war-torn borders. She conducts Resilience through Joy workshops for refugee shelters and other organizations on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. An award-winning writer-translator, her work has been featured in The Guardian, Washington Post, New York Times, and elsewhere. She is the author of Rumi's Gift Oracle Cards, bridging elements of the Western Tarot and the ancient art of Persian poetry divination. Her novel, A Girl Called Rumi weaves a tale of immigration, redemption, and the power of storytelling and is based on Ari's experience growing up in post-revolution Iran. You will learn: How Ari could recite the great Persian Poets before they could read or write (not only unique to Ari, but many people of Iran) The 15 year magical artistic process of bringing their award-winning novel to life (+ the the cosmic guidance they received in the process) How Ari studied molecular biology, worked in cancer research & biotech firms (she was never a trained writer) How Ari understood in childhood there was something available to them at all times even during terror-filled nights (+ their pursuit of cultivating that sanctuary within themselves ever since) When Ari had to put poetry on the backburner in order to survive & assimilate as a teenager (+ the way in which poetry came back to them) The conception of her work ‘Drop Poems not Bombs’ (alongside world-class musicians) Resilience Through Joy: Ari’s workshops with refugees around the world (+ the transformations that take place) Tangible ways to support Iranian protesters in their quest for freedom (+ the intersectionality of social justice) How we all have internalized ‘morality police’ (even in the US) Ari’s quest for reparative re-humanization, restorative justice & healing (while doing it joyfully!) How so much of our work as People & Artists is Inner Work (+ body budgets & how to replenish your sacred self) Global day of DANCE FOR FREEDOM : let your body be the bodies of those who are not allowed to dance (just as your voice amplifies their voices) Ari’s upcoming TED Talk in 2023! BEYOND the FRAME with CARL KENNEDY

At times, words may fail you, but your intention won’t. Carl Kennedy is the medicine, marvel & mastery your Actor & Humxn so desperately need right now. Grab a journal, a pen & set some precious time aside for YourSelf & Your Artist. Cuz if you’re not currently having fun in your #actorslife, that’s a problem! If you’re concerned about what others think of you, freeze up in auditions or callbacks, forgot who the F you are (+ fully owning & expressing YourSelf), feel discomfort in your next growth-edge or have lost faith and need to give your Artist & Humxn some Cosmic & Creative TLC, this prolific stream-of-consciousness episode will keep you on the edge of your earbuds! As Carl says, “Chicken soup for the soul. Auditions come and go, but you always have to live with you, so let’s make sure that’s taken care of - let’s feed the spirit, then we can get to acting.” Carl is best known for his Guest Star recurring role as Officer Gordon on Tyler Perry's The Haves and the Have Nots (OWN). His recent TV credits include: The Summer I Turned Pretty (Amazon), A Friend of the Family (Peacock), MIKE (Hulu), and Dynasty (CW). Before his break into TV, Carl flourished on the International stage. His performances as Lucius Jenkins in Jesus Hopped the A Train and John in The Whipping Man earned him "Best Actor" nominations at the Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards held in Vancouver, British Columbia (2010-11, 2014-15 respectively). Carl holds an MFA in Acting from the University of Washington-Seattle and has been seen on regional stages from Portland, OR to Halifax, NS. Carl is here to remind you of who you are, how powerful you are. When you’re ready to receive, it will be given. You will learn: Why the story has to be more important than the words (theatre thiiiing) Performer concerns vs. Character concerns (+ why it’s vital you know & execute the difference) #1 rule of performing (+ the generative concept of ‘yes, and…’) Why there’s no shame in failing (+ tips to get back UP) How you *truly* impress a Casting Director (it’s not what you think) Why Carl doesn’t do ‘like’ (+ more effective questions to ask YourSelf) How to raise the temperature in any room (& lift the caliber of those around you: actors are GIVERS!!) Why every TV & film actor has to do at least one play (+ falling forward with your intention onstage) Why delaying your gratitude is the hardest thing you will ever do (it’s not about earning anything, it’s about being prepared for your moment) Why Carl runs towards the things in a script that he doesn’t know (whereas most want to polish what they’re already good at) Why you need to practice like you intend to perform (+ how to take up space) What Carl does when the bookings are few & far between (better than a vision board!) Why there’s no right or wrong, there’s only rehearsal and the answer is exploration (I warned you in advance: grab a journal + pen!) And so much more!! Seriously.
