From Evidence to Action: How Research Actually Moves Through Government

Many fully researched reports sit in government drawers, never informing policy decisions. The challenge is rarely a lack of evidence. More often, it is understanding how evidence moves through the realities of government to improve the lives of citizens.

In our latest podcast episode, "From Evidence to Action: How Research Actually Moves Through Government,” we explore why some research informs reform while other evidence loses momentum.

Moderated by Emmanuel Ejewule, Team Lead, Evidence and Impact Team at the Foundation, the episode features Dr Yusuf Saeed, former Director of Human Resource Management at the Federal Ministry of Education. They examine what it takes for research to move through the real machinery of government, from informing decisions and securing budgets to shaping implementation and delivering better outcomes for citizens.

Agenda 2063: Moving from Blueprint to Reality: What will it Take?

Agenda 2063 lays out a bold vision for “The Africa We Want,” but the key question is: are we making real progress on this vision?

In commemoration of this year’s Africa Day, we hosted a special podcast episode, “Agenda 2063: Moving from Blueprint to Reality, What Will it Take?”

In this episode, our Director of Programmes, Chioma Njoku, speaks with three of our alumni from Nigeria, Uganda, and Kenya who are directly involved in reform implementation across the continent. Drawing on their work in healthcare, digital infrastructure, and governance, they discuss what Agenda 2063 promises, what has been achieved so far, where gaps remain and what the continent needs to do to ensure this vision is achieved.

The conversation highlights that the real challenge is execution because while progress exists in Africa’s development, it is uneven and often not clearly linked to Agenda 2063. The discussion called for better alignment across governments, deeper private sector collaboration, and active citizen participation to truly realise the Africa we want.
