The Reflexes That Help Us Learn to Move | TLR, ATNR & STNR
n this episode of the Aligned Posture Podcast, I continue exploring human development by looking at three primitive reflexes: the Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR), Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR), and Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (STNR).
Rather than getting lost in complicated terminology, I break these reflexes down from a movement perspective and explore how they contribute to our early development.
We look at how a baby gradually learns to interact with gravity, control the head, differentiate between the left and right sides of the body, coordinate the upper and lower body, reach, rotate, crawl and eventually become upright and walk.
I also discuss what happens to these reflexes as the nervous system matures and why we should be careful about automatically blaming adult posture or movement problems on a “retained primitive reflex.”
The bigger question is: how did the movement we developed early in life help shape the way we move today?
A light and practical introduction to TLR, ATNR and STNR — and another piece of the fascinating puzzle that is human movement.

Human Evolution & Movement: Understanding the PRDSMS and PRDPs | PRI
In this episode of the Aligned Posture Podcast, I explore some of the key concepts from the Postural Restoration Institute’s Human Evolution course, including the Postural Restoration Developmental Sensory Motor Sequence (PRDSMS) and the Postural Restoration Developmental Processes (PRDPs).
I discuss how our movement develops from our earliest interactions with the ground and gravity, through reaching, shifting, crawling and eventually becoming upright and walking.
We also look at how movement development involves much more than just muscles and joints. Our sensory systems, vision, hearing, breathing, communication and previous movement experiences all contribute to how we learn to organise and move our body.
I also share some of my own thoughts on how these concepts can help us better understand adult movement, compensation and why I believe it’s important to assess the whole person rather than simply focusing on where someone feels tight or uncomfortable.

Who I Am, Why I Started Aligned Posture & My Journey With Movement
In this more personal episode of the Aligned Posture Podcast, I step away from the usual anatomy and biomechanics lessons to share a little more about who I am, where my passion for movement came from, and why I created Aligned Posture.
My interest in biomechanics didn’t begin in a classroom. It came from years of dealing with my own pain, recurring injuries and movement restrictions, and wanting to understand why these problems kept happening rather than simply managing the symptoms.
I talk about my journey through studying gym instruction, biomechanics and Postural Restoration Institute (PRI) concepts, and how this has changed the way I look at posture, breathing, joint movement and the body as a whole.
I also share what I’m working towards with Aligned Posture: helping people understand their bodies, improve their movement and build happy, healthy bodies that allow them to keep doing the things they love.
Whether that’s lifting weights, running, improving performance, or simply moving through everyday life with more confidence and freedom.
This episode is less about teaching a specific topic and more about introducing the person behind Aligned Posture — my experiences, what I’m learning, what drives me, and where I want to take this journey.
🎧 If you’re interested in movement, joint health, biomechanics or simply looking after your body for the long term, I’d love you to come along for the journey.
