Listening Is Courageous: What Happens When We Stop Walking Away
Most of us have someone in our lives — a colleague, a neighbor, a family member — whose views don't align with ours. And most of us have decided that's reason enough to keep our distance.
Dr. Jordan Ashley thinks we're losing something every time we do that. In this conversation, she shares a story about a what happened when she stayed in an increasingly uncomfortable conversation - long enough to hear the rest. She talks about why we've become so quick to abandon discomfort, what collective experiences like yoga can teach us about trust, and why she believes listening has become an act of courage.
This is an episode about how we've stopped making room for people who "aren't like us".
About the guest:
Dr. Jordan Ashley is the founder of Souljourn Yoga Foundation, a nonprofit that creates transformational yoga retreats and teacher training programs to raise awareness and funds for young women's education worldwide. She holds a PhD in Sociology and an MA in Human Rights. Her doctoral research drew on ethnographic fieldwork with Amazigh girls in Morocco's High Atlas Mountains, exploring girlhood, embodiment, and yoga as pedagogy.

Dancing for The Phone: A DJ on What the Dancefloor Lost
The dancefloor used to be one of the purest forms of shared experience — strangers in the same room, hearing, feeling, and moving to the same music, all at the same time. But DJ RBI has watched all of that change over the last 30 years.
In this conversation, Ron Brown (aka DJ RBI) takes us behind the turntables, where he's witnessed crowds go from dancing with each other to dancing for the phone. He tells us why venues are redesigning themselves from dance clubs into lounges, why niche communities are where real connection still lives, and why he refuses to let any of it take away his love of music.
In this episode:
What a DJ sees that the rest of us don't
Why people stopped coming to discover and started coming to perform
The venues that are redesigning themselves around disconnection
Where community still thrives — and how to find yours

Truth Has Become Cheaper: Two Scientists on Why That Should Worry Us All
When we talk about society's declining trust in institutions, one of the biggest is our diminishing trust in science. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Linnea Weiss and Dr. Andrés Hidalgo, married scientists who both work in labs at Yale. They've been doing research since the 1990s and they've watched a shift, or as Linnea put it, "truth has become cheaper."
This is a conversation about what it feels like to dedicate your life to discovery in a world with increasing skepticism and scrutiny — and why, despite everything, they wouldn't do anything else.
Your analog assignment:
The next time you read a headline about a scientific breakthrough (or failure) pause before you continue your scroll. Think about the person behind it, their years in the lab, the many, MANY experiments that didn't work before the one that did. If you know a scientist, ask them about their work... and listen.
