The Anchor Wellness Podcast is hosted by Niamh Hayes, a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner & Lifestyle Coach, who guides you toward regulated living through nervous system regulation, trauma resolution, and healthy lifestyle coaching.
Welcome to The Anchor Wellness Podcast! This podcast is all about guiding you towards regulated living, through nervous system regulation, trauma resolution from a Somatic Experiencing lens, and building a healthy lifestyle. In this week's episode, host Niamh Hayes introduces the mechanism behind whether you feel stressed or not, whether you are overwhelmed or not, whether you end up burned out or not - neuroception! This is your internal threat detector or surveillance system that is always scanning your internal, external and relational environments for danger or safety cues, also known as your demands or supports. When the threat cues/demands outweigh your safety cues/supports, your nervous system will shift into one of its self-protective modes (fight, flight, freeze or shutdown). When the safety cues/supports outweigh the threat/demands, you will be able to access the ventral state of regulation, presence and connection. Find out how you can consciously bring more safety to your life, so that you feel less stressed, overwhelmed or burned out.Get in touch, ask questions or explore options of working with Niamh by visiting her website here.

Welcome to The Anchor Wellness Podcast! This podcast is all about guiding you towards regulated living, through nervous system regulation, trauma resolution from a Somatic Experiencing lens, and building a healthy lifestyle. In this week's episode, host Niamh Hayes introduces the final two of six states within your nervous system - the Play state and the Rest/Stillness state. The Play state is a combination of your ventral state of safety, presence and connection, along with the sympathetic state of mobilisation. This is a state you want to be able to access when you're performing in any way - whether that's giving a talk or presentation, or doing an activity or playing a sport. The Rest/Stillness state is a combination of the ventral state and the dorsal state of immobilisation. Access to this state enables you to rest, recover, be still, experience awe and enjoy the slower, quieter moments. Niamh shares what it's like to be in both of these states, from a body and mind perspective, as well as how you can consciously help yourself to access these states when appropriate.Get in touch, ask questions or explore options of working with Niamh by visiting her website here.

The Anchor Wellness Podcast 2026 Ep6
Welcome back to The Anchor Wellness Podcast! This podcast is all about guiding you towards regulated living, through nervous system regulation, trauma resolution from a Somatic Experiencing lens, and building a healthy lifestyle. In this week's episode, host Niamh Hayes introduces the fourth of six states within your nervous system - the Freeze state. This is one of your self-protective states that you go into when your internal threat detector, neuroception, picks up on a real or perceived danger which it senses as life threatening and it's not sure if you can fight or run away from it, or if going into hibernation mode is needed. It's a state that so many people are living their lives from. It can feel like being stuck, procrastinating, there is a 'I have to but I can't' experience. Niamh shares what it's like to be in this state, from a body and mind perspective, as well as ways that you can start shifting into a more regulated place, if you find that this freeze state is your current foundation or go-to.Get in touch, ask questions or explore options of working with Niamh by visiting her website here.
