Most people have performed their entire lives and called it living. This is for the ones who've noticed.
The Architect Speaks is Michael Lauria, a qualified therapist, author and philosophical mythologist, on the father wound, people pleasing, self betrayal, shadow work, purpose, money, identity, and what it takes to build a coherent life after you stop performing one. No noise, just signal.

Was Merlin the Wizard a Real Person? The Madman in the Forest | Ep 537
Was Merlin the wizard a real person? The legend grew out of a man the old stories of the north call Lailoken, and the Welsh call Myrddin Wyllt, Myrddin the Wild. He saw something in a battle that broke his mind, ran into the forest, and said things about the future that nobody wanted to hear. A couple of months ago I stood at Merlin's grave at Drumelzier in the Scottish Borders, where the Powsail Burn runs into the Tweed, and found a rusted marker nobody can read.
In this episode:
The madman in the forest, and the three deaths he foretold for himself
How Geoffrey of Monmouth made the wild man into Merlin in the 1130s: the boy with no father, the falling tower and the two dragons
Merlin's hand behind every turn of the King Arthur legend, from the conception to the sword in the stone to the lake
Nimue, and the most powerful man in the legend shut under a stone by his own teaching
Thomas the Rhymer's rhyme about Merlin's grave, and the flood of 1603
Why we keep Merlin on a screen and leave the real thing to rust by the river
What have you seen that you've stopped saying because nobody wanted to hear it?

Why You Feel Empty After Giving Everything (Coherent vs Incoherent Sacrifice) | Ep 536
You can give everything you’ve got to your family, your work and your relationship, and still end up feeling empty. In twenty years as a therapist I watched this happen to a lot of good people, and it had very little to do with how much they were giving and almost everything to do with what they were giving it to. Here are the two kinds of sacrifice, coherent and incoherent, and three questions that tell you which one you’re making.
The Atlas names the pattern running your life in a single sitting. It is built from twenty years in the chair and the thirty-three books of Michael Lauria, a qualified therapist, author and philosophical mythologist. It takes about forty-five minutes, costs nothing, and ends in a written Record of that pattern, drawn from your own words. It is not therapy and not for crisis. Begin here (https://starthere.codexofthearchitect.com/?utm_source=spotify&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=coherent_sacrifice&utm_content=full).

Who Was the Real King Arthur? Rightwise King Born | Ep 535
Who was the real King Arthur? A Welsh history from around the year 830 calls him a war leader who fought twelve battles, and never calls him a king. The sword in the stone, the Round Table and Camelot were built over the next thousand years on top of a single line about his death at Camlann. This episode asks why people needed him, and why the once and future king never quite dies.
In this episode:
Arthur in the oldest Welsh records: the twelve battles, "though he was no Arthur," and the strife of Camlann
Conceived through a deception and raised in another man's house as the boy who fetches and carries
The sword in the stone: every knight in the land heaved at it, and a boy running an errand for his brother lifted it out
"Rightwise king born," and what the words on the stone are asking for
The Round Table, and the king who couldn't see what was breaking in his own house
The once and future king, and how Henry VII and Henry VIII dressed themselves up as him
Where are you still standing back from the stone, telling yourself the sword is for someone else? And what's breaking in your own house while you hold up the kingdom?
The episode draws on my book Forging Excalibur. If you want to see what keeps you back from the stone, start with the Atlas. The Atlas names the pattern running your life in a single sitting.
