A series of interviews with Artists and those involved in the Arts about their lives and careers. Hosted by artist Alan Keane, it is recorded from live conversations over Zoom on Saturdays and archived on this Podcast and The Artist's Well YouTube channel
Alan sits down with American artist David Newton in his County Meath studio for a conversation that might just change the way you think about making art. David, who trained at the Rhode Island School of Design and showed work in New York before settling in Ireland, talks about his lifelong love of collage and why he believes construction and process are far more powerful than planning and perfection. Drawing on the teachings of artists Anna Mendieta and Richard Merkin, he shares his philosophy of letting materials lead, feelings follow, and meaning reveal itself later. The conversation also introduces his upcoming two-day collage workshop at the United Arts Club, Dublin, on the 11th and 12th of April — a small, intimate gathering of just eight participants who will explore collage, sculpture collage, reflective practice, and the joy of creative discovery. If you've ever felt held back by the idea that you can't draw, or that art has to look a certain way, this one's for you!
