About The Audacity Tapes™

The Audacity Tapes™ is a long-form podcast exploring what happens when conviction becomes non-negotiable. These are not surface interviews. They are deep, unfiltered dialogues about the moments that demanded courage — the decisions that disrupted comfort — and the belief systems that refused to bend. Hosted by Robbin Jorgensen, Founder & CEO of Women Igniting Change®, each episode examines the moments that reshaped identity, demanded courage, and forced a choice. What unites them is not title or platform — it’s moral clarity under pressure. Formerly the Women Igniting Change® Podcast, this evolution reflects what has always been at the heart of these conversations: the audacity to imagine a better world — and the discipline to build it. Our guests come from different paths and lived experiences, but they share one thing: a refusal to look away. These conversations won’t just inspire you — they will recalibrate you. They invite you to examine your own convictions and take the next step toward the change that’s calling. New episodes every Monday. With listeners in 41 countries, The Audacity Tapes™ is a global platform exploring the moments that demand courage, conviction, and the audacity to choose differently.

FROM THE VAULT: Naming Gender Apartheid: Dr. Sima Samar and Makhfi Azizi on Human Dignity and the Women of Afghanistan

Before the headlines, before the Taliban, before decades of war, there was another Afghanistan. In this extraordinary conversation, two generations of Afghan women come together to tell the story of what has been lost, what has endured, and why the struggle for human dignity in Afghanistan is ultimately a test of our shared humanity. Dr. Sima Samar—physician, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, former Vice President of Afghanistan, former Minister of Women's Affairs, and founder of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission—joins Afghan journalist and advocate Makhfi Azizi for a deeply personal and unflinching conversation about the past, present, and future of their country. Together, they take listeners inside the reality facing women and girls under Taliban rule, where more than 150 edicts have stripped away fundamental freedoms and where even the sound of a woman's voice has become a battleground. They explain why the Taliban does not represent either Afghan culture or Islam, why both women believe the world must recognize what is happening as gender apartheid, and why the failure to name injustice has consequences. The conversation also explores the devastating events of 2021and why the fight for the women of Afghanistan is not simply an Afghan issue. It is a human issue. In this episode: The Afghanistan both women remember before decades of war and extremism What the world continues to misunderstand about Afghan culture, religion, and identity The personal cost of speaking out and defending human rights How Dr. Samar introduced the concept of human rights to communities across Afghanistan The reality of living under more than 150 Taliban edicts targeting women and girls Why both women believe the world must recognize gender apartheid What Afghanistan lost in 2021—and the dreams that disappeared with it Why Dr. Samar says peace is more than the absence of war The collective failure of Afghanistan and the international community What history must remember about the women of Afghanistan Key Moments 00:00 | Two Generations, One Fight 07:50 | What the World Gets Wrong About Afghanistan 14:09 | The Cost of Being Outspoken 26:15 | Life Under More Than 150 Edicts 39:08 | Why Naming Gender Apartheid Matters 43:29 | What Afghanistan Lost in 2021 49:04 | The World's Tolerance of Injustice 52:58 | Peace Is More Than the Absence of War 1:09:10 | What History Must Remember About Dr. Sima Samar Dr. Sima Samar is a physician, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, and one of the world's leading human rights advocates. The Weaponization of Reality: When Truth Becomes the Casualty

What happens when a lie looks indistinguishable from the truth—and the truth itself can be dismissed as a lie? We're entering dangerous territory where artificial intelligence, disinformation, and the deliberate manipulation of evidence are changing far more than what we see online. They're changing how we understand reality, whom we believe, and whether those in power can be held accountable. But what if convincing people to believe a lie isn't even the objective? What if the real goal is to create so much confusion and distrust that people stop believing anything at all? In this episode, I explore the weaponization of reality and its implications for democracy, justice, and human rights. From documented disinformation campaigns connected to atrocities in Myanmar to research revealing how powerful people can benefit from public doubt, we're confronting a disturbing question about who controls the truth—and who pays the price when it's manipulated. Because when truth becomes negotiable, accountability becomes optional. In This Episode, We Talk About… Why the greatest danger of disinformation may not be believing a lie. The unsettling connection between manufactured confusion and the exercise of power. What a documented disinformation campaign in Myanmar reveals about the consequences of manipulating public perception. How powerful people can benefit when the public begins questioning authentic evidence. Why the people with the least power often pay the highest price when truth is undermined. The uncomfortable questions we need to ask ourselves about what we believe, what we share, and whose version of reality we're willing to accept. When Did Caring Become Political? The Dangerous Line Between Empathy and Allegiance

When did caring about another human being become a political statement? In this episode, I examine what happens when empathy becomes tangled up with political allegiance—when expressing concern for Palestinians, Israelis, immigrants, women in Afghanistan, or people suffering halfway around the world is immediately interpreted as taking a side. But caring about human suffering is not the same as endorsing a government, defending someone’s actions, or advocating for a particular policy response. Drawing from my international work and a recent UNGA session with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Denis Mukwege about the devastating violence against women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo, I explore the line between caring and fixing, between accountability and dehumanization, and between legitimate political disagreement and allowing politics to determine whose suffering matters. Because policy is political. We should debate it. We should disagree about it. But when our politics begin determining who deserves our empathy—or whose humanity we're willing to recognize—we’ve crossed into something much more dangerous. In This Episode I explore how concern for another human being has increasingly become interpreted as a declaration of political allegiance—and why those two things should never be confused. I examine the way labels can replace individual human beings, how we sometimes search for context as permission not to care, and why recognizing someone’s humanity doesn't require excusing their behavior or pretending all sides of a conflict are morally equivalent. I reflect on hearing Dr. Denis Mukwege speak about the violence facing women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo and ask what responsibility we have to remain engaged with suffering we can't personally solve. I also challenge us to notice whether our outrage changes when the politics change—and whether allegiance has begun determining who receives our empathy.
