So that floods us with feel-good chemicals, endorphins, oxytocin, dopamine. So we get this intense arousal followed by a euphoric sense of relief. All that allows us to practice the responses we'd have if we were really in danger without the existential fear that we're going to die. That is a thrill for a lot of folks.
