Fix the Money, Fix Healthcare: Jon Gordon on Bitcoin, Nostr, and Sound HSA
What would healthcare look like if it ran on sound money?
In this episode, I sit down with Jon Gordon, founder of Sound HSA and one of the most thoughtful people working at the intersection of Bitcoin and healthcare. Jon spent years in healthcare strategy before recognizing that many of the system's deepest problems, from misaligned incentives to broken data privacy, trace back to the money itself.
Now he's building solutions. Sound HSA is a Bitcoin-native Health Savings Account where real bitcoin is held in multi-signature vaults, not paper exposure, not IOUs. Jon walks through exactly how it works, who the custodial partners are, and why he believes HSAs are one of the most overlooked tax-advantaged vehicles in personal finance.
We also get into Nostr and the Web of Trust model for healthcare data. If you've ever wondered what a world looks like where patients actually own their medical records and control who sees them, Jon has a concrete vision for that. He explains how NOSTER's protocol could replace the fragmented, privacy-hostile systems that hospitals and insurers currently rely on.
Then there's Move to Earn, a wellness incentive model that rewards people in sats for staying active. Jon breaks down how this works in practice and why he thinks Bitcoin-denominated incentives align better with long-term health outcomes than anything the insurance industry has tried.
Finally, we talk about what Jon has been building on the ground in Chicago, from local meetups to helping medical practices accept Bitcoin payments using tools like ZapRite and Strike.
Topics covered:
Jon's path from healthcare strategy to Bitcoin
How to explain Bitcoin's relevance to skeptics in the medical field
What Sound HSA is and how Bitcoin-native HSAs actually work
Multi-signature custody through Unchained, Gannett Trust, and Horizon Trust
The Nostr protocol and Web of Trust applied to health data privacy
Move to Earn wellness programs denominated in sats
Implementing Bitcoin payments in medical practices
Building local Bitcoin community and infrastructure in Chicago

Chess, Solar, and Sound Money: Besa Masaiti on Bitcoin Mining in Emerging Markets
What happens when a professional chess player with a Master's in Financial Engineering starts applying quantitative modeling to Bitcoin mining and solar energy in emerging markets?
In this episode, I sit down with Besa Masaiti, founder of Rehoboth Research, a Pennsylvania-based firm that provides data-driven intelligence for complex infrastructure projects. Besa's work focuses on de-risking renewable energy and high-compute operations in places most analysts aren't even looking at yet, including Botswana, where government energy initiatives are creating real opportunities at the intersection of Bitcoin mining and solar development.
We get into how her background in chess shaped the way she thinks about risk, pattern recognition, and decision-making under uncertainty. We talk about what "bankable decisions" actually means when you're trying to convince a lender that a solar-powered mining operation in sub-Saharan Africa is viable. And we discuss why policy and legislation are the most underappreciated variables in infrastructure development.
Topics covered:
Besa's path from competitive chess and financial engineering to founding Rehoboth Research
What "quantitative intelligence for complex infrastructure" looks like in practice
De-risking solar-powered compute projects in emerging markets
Botswana's energy transition and why it matters for Bitcoin miners
The overlooked variables that determine whether a mining operation succeeds or fails
Community pushback against data centers and how to navigate it
Why AI may be the biggest catalyst for energy infrastructure development in the next decade
Bitcoin mining as a tool for grid development, not just profit

Bitcoin Runs on One Codebase. Here's Why That's a Problem — and What's Being Done About It
What if Bitcoin's biggest long-term vulnerability isn't quantum computers or regulation, but the fact that almost every node on the network runs the same software?
Gil Roberts returns to Hard Money Dispatch, this time joined by Josh (aka Secure Sovereign) from Bitcoin Commons, to talk about something that rarely gets discussed in Bitcoin circles: the case for multiple node implementations.
They've built something genuinely new. A modular, mathematically verified Bitcoin node that can be forked without triggering a civil war. The architecture is designed from scratch to allow different groups to customize and extend the software without destabilizing consensus. AI plays a key role in the verification process, making the kind of rigorous formal proofs that would have been impossibly expensive just a few years ago now actually feasible.
We get into:
Why a monoculture of node software is a hidden risk
How the Commons architecture makes forking safer and less political
The role of formal verification and AI in building trustworthy consensus code
What quantum preparedness actually looks like at the implementation level
The funding gap between Bitcoin infrastructure and the rest of crypto
This is a conversation about the future of Bitcoin's foundation. Not the price. Not the cycle. The code that everything else depends on.
If you want a say in where the network goes, run a node. If you want to understand what the next generation of node software might look like, listen to this episode.
