Can Owning My Desires Heal the World?
In our final episode of season 2 of the Beauty In-Between Podcast, we had the delight of welcoming Tracey Gee! Tracey is a certified leadership coach and author, and we got to discuss topics from the importance of fiber to the importance of naming our desires and the challenges that come with it. We talked about how societal and personal pressures can make it difficult to articulate what we truly want, and the significance of approaching this process with kindness and honesty. Tracey shares insights from her book, The Magic of Knowing What You Want (which everyone should go read and work through!), and emphasizes the power of recognizing both small and large desires as valid. What could unlock in your life if you didn't cut your wants off at the knees before you even get started, and put everything on the table? This felt like the perfect conclusion to our season talking about different elements of identity and ultimately encourages our listeners to trust yourselves and embrace the journey of self-discovery without the pressure of perfection. How Does My Identity Shape My Spirituality?
In this episode, we are SO excited to get to talk with Roslyn Hernandez about the intersectionality of our spirituality and identity. Roslyn is a Latina public theologian, content producer, creative strategist, and spiritual director passionate about resourcing emerging adults as they navigate faith, identity, and justice. In this episode, we get into co-imagining together what it can look like (and what it has looked like for us) to decolonize and indigenize our faith, engage in communal theology, and the fruit of what the practice of digging into our own roots and stories can bring to individuals and into the community for our collective flourishing. In this episode, Gabe and Katie discuss gaming culture: from casual to competitive, and the toxic behavior that can arise in the gaming community to bonding with friends and family, we cover a little bit of everything today. The conversation touches on the tension between having a safe space to escape to and becoming addicted to gaming. What Can We Learn From Divorce?
Well, friends, we hope you like this one! This conversation was originally going to probably go one direction, and we wound up heading in a totally new one instead. Divorce is something that isn't well understood, taught about, or talked about in the church - and more often than not, there aren't a ton of resources or stories within the Church for children going through divorces that involve adultery, abuse, narcissism, or ongoing lying. There's plenty that Katie left unsaid for the sake of honoring all of her parents, but we think this was still quite an edifying and healing conversation. Hopefully Katie sharing and unpacking her experience as a child of walking through two very different divorces can help someone out there process a little more about your own experience! God does not call bad things good, but he doesn't leave us in the midst of any of it. And he really is good. Listen into this open, raw conversation between Gabe and Katie about this important topic. Is Fear of Success a Thing?
This was a fun episode for us! In this episode, Katie and Gabe discuss the intersection of the fear of success, fear of failure, and imposter syndrome, and how it comes into play in our daily lives. We get into some of our personal experiences with perspectives on past failures and success, and explore the impact of self-talk when we make mistakes and how that in turn can shape our self-perception. Overall, we get into a casual, but pretty in-depth conversation that highlights the complex nature of where we believe success and failure comes from. Hopefully, our conversation can help you begin to embrace a growth mentality, trust in the Lord's work in your lives, and recognize your inherent value and dignity simply because you’re you. Is Ministry Just for the Professionals?
In this episode, we have our first guest! Gabe & Katie got to sit down with John Onwuchekwa to talk about his background in vocational ministry, serial entrepreneurship, and what ministry can look like for the rest of us. Dive into this conversation with us where we go a little deeper in exploring what “ministry” means, what it can look like for everyday believers in our lives. Also, this episode was filmed in the middle of real life and wound up with a couple more un-fixable background sounds. In this conversation, Katie and Gabe explore the definition and purpose of the church and if it’s “worth it” and the importance of finding spaces where one can be themselves and grow spiritually. They touch on the relationship between community and healing, that some church spaces are explicitly harmful, and the role of believers in serving and caring for one another wherever we find ourselves.
