What is the Bible | My Beautiful Bible | Pastor Michell Hobbs, Pastor Meredith Hobbs, and Pastor Bailey Carlton
We are back! The Beyond Podcast is officially in full swing, and we are kicking off a brand new series, "My Beautiful Bible"!
My Beautiful Bible: Unwrapping the Library
Beyond a Single Book: The Bible is better understood as a "library" of 66 books, written by 40+ authors over 1,500 years, all woven together to tell one unified narrative.
The Duality of Scripture: Like the nature of Jesus—fully God and fully man—Scripture is God-breathed and authoritative, yet it carries the distinct personalities, writing styles, and human experiences of its authors.
Not a Textbook: We aren't reading for homework or grades; we are reading for life. Once you understand what you are holding, reading shifts from a chore to an essential, life-impacting habit.
Key Takeaways for Your Devotional Life
Overcoming the "Boring" Label: If the Bible feels boring, you might just be looking at it the wrong way. Just as you wouldn't judge all music by one song, don't judge the whole Bible by one section. Explore different genres—from poetry and wisdom in Proverbs to the "mind-bending" twists in Esther.
The Importance of Context: The Bible isn't always chronological. Using study tools to understand when a passage was written (like knowing David wrote a specific Psalm while fleeing from his son) transforms the text from mere words into a powerful, relatable experience.
Row With Both Oars: To truly understand Scripture, you need both the Word and the Spirit. As 1 Corinthians 2 explains, the Spirit of God searches the depths of God and is the only One who can interpret the thoughts of God for us.
"If your hobby is the Word of God, what could be a healthier hobby?" We invite you to join us on this journey as we unwrap what exactly this library is, how it’s organized, and how to approach it with a lens of faith rather than doubt. Don't linger outside the pool—it's time to dive in.
