Ep 09: What You Believe About Change Will Change How You Live-Part 1
In this episode of the Biblical Film Room, Michael Jerome explores how spending time with Jesus connects to Christian spiritual growth, personal transformation, and the impact you have on others. Through Peter’s confession in Matthew 16, Jesus’ calling of the apostles in Mark 3, and the courage of Peter and John in Acts 4, Michael invites you to examine the difference between religious activity and a deepening relationship with Christ. Life experiences, church hurt, cultural opinions, and religious traditions can influence how we see Jesus. This conversation challenges listeners to examine those influences through Scripture and consider whether their daily lives reflect what they say they believe. Michael also shares his own experience of shallow spiritual routines and his ongoing desire to grow through intentional time with Jesus. In this episode, we explore: Jesus’ question in Matthew 16: “Who do you say I am?” Peter’s confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. The difference between knowing other people’s opinions about Jesus and developing personal conviction. Why Jesus called the apostles to be with Him before sending them out. How distractions and going through the motions can interfere with spiritual growth. What Acts 4 reveals about the courage and influence of Peter and John. How love, patience, kindness, and the way you treat others can reflect your walk with Christ. If you have been feeling spiritually stuck, distracted, or disconnected, this episode offers an invitation to examine your convictions and make room for a more intentional relationship with Jesus. If this episode is making you recognize that some of the things you're struggling with today may have deeper roots than you realized, you don't have to figure all of that out by yourself. Through A Space Of Grace Counseling, I offer a complimentary 30-minute discovery call where we can talk about your story, where you're feeling stuck, and whether biblical counseling may be a good fit for you. Ep 08: Three Myths That Keep Us Stuck And the Truth That Breaks the Mold
In “Three Myths That Keep Us Stuck and the Truth That Breaks the Mold,” we examine limiting beliefs, spiritual growth, biblical counseling, and the difference between helpful resources and the source of lasting change. The three myths: “Therapy or self-help will fix me.” “Just pray about it,” “just trust God,” or “just have more faith.” “More connection in community will automatically make me healthy.” This conversation isn’t about dismissing professional counseling, prayer, or Christian community. It’s about understanding their role, moving beyond quick answers, and learning how to bring our struggles honestly into a relationship with God. Drawing from Romans 12:2 and Ephesians 4:22–24, Michael explores what it means to renew your mind, challenge familiar patterns, and grow in your identity in Christ. He also discusses why healthy Christian community requires more than attendance, including listening, honesty, boundaries, vulnerability, and accountability. Ep 07: A Client’s Story: How Looking Back Unlocks Moving Forward. Please make this change.
In this episode of the Biblical Film Room, Michael Jerome explains why relationship struggles are not always only about your spouse, partner, family member, friend, coworker, church community, or authority figure. Through a real counseling story, biblical reflection, and practical self-examination, he shows how family-of-origin patterns can replay in adult relationships and how awareness can create room for a different response. Michael shares the story of a married client who repeatedly shut down when her husband became demanding. As counseling explored her family of origin, she discovered that the dynamic was familiar: she had learned to become quiet, guarded, and approval-seeking in response to a demanding father. Her husband was not her father, but the emotional pattern was being triggered in her marriage. Recognizing that connection helped her begin speaking up, expressing boundaries, and responding with greater agency. This is not about blaming parents, excusing unhealthy behavior, or staying stuck in the past. It is about understanding your formation, identifying the root beneath the presenting problem, and allowing God’s truth to lead you toward healthier communication, boundaries, identity, and relationships. In this episode, you will learn: Why adult relationship struggles may be connected to earlier family-of-origin patterns. How old survival strategies can show up in marriage, dating, friendships, family, work, church, and authority relationships. Why the presenting problem is not always the root problem. How childhood patterns can shape people-pleasing, conflict avoidance, defensiveness, emotional shutdown, difficulty receiving criticism, or trouble setting boundaries. How to ask, “Am I responding to this person, or to an old pattern?” Why awareness gives you the ability to choose a different response. What Paul’s transformation in Galatians 1 teaches about your past not determining your future. How God can reveal patterns that keep you stuck and lead you toward healing, growth, and a renewed purpose. Why looking backward is not the destination, but a doorway to healthier relating and forward movement. Reflection questions Take a quiet moment and ask yourself: Where have I seen this relationship pattern before? Who did I learn to become in order to receive love, avoid conflict, or feel safe? What happened when I respectfully disagreed, expressed anger, cried, failed, or needed help? Do I lose my voice when someone becomes demanding? What boundary or truth do I need to communicate today? Your family of origin may explain some of your patterns, but it does not have to determine your future. You can recognize the pattern, respond with wisdom, and grow into the person God is developing you to become. If this episode is making you recognize that some of the things you're struggling with today may have deeper roots than you realized, you don't have to figure all of that out by yourself.
