[…] Starting in January of 2027, the state will impose a 0.2% tax on the gross value of digital assets exchange transferred and stored for customers. No profit required, no capital gain, just moving digital assets triggers the tax. The big takeaway here is if you think about how incredibly unfair this is, moving a million dollars through a bank wire, ACH or brokerage, Illinois takes nothing. Move that same million as a digital asset such as Bitcoin. And the state takes $2,000. Adam, I'll let you take this one first. This is a little bit closer to home for both of us. My state borders Illinois. Fortunately, we're less insane than those across the river. […]
