Protective Intelligence Lessons from a Failed Assassination in Mexico
In this podcast, Scott Stewart, TorchStone VP, examines the failed assassination attempt on Mexico City's Secretary of Public Security, Omar García Harfuch. On June 26, 2020 a heavily armed team of 28 gunmen, allegedly from the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG), ambushed García Harfuch's vehicle in a prestigious neighborhood in Mexico City.
Despite the well-planned attack, García Harfuch survived with only three wounds, while two security officers and an innocent bystander were killed.
Stewart analyzes the details of the attack, the response of García Harfuch's security team, and the mistakes made by the attackers.
He discusses the importance of protective intelligence and the steps security details can take to prevent such attacks from happening to their protectees.
