Erin and Ellen explore why we often skip rest during busy seasons: we think it has to be big to count. But your nervous system doesn’t need an hour to reset. It needs consistency. They share simple, realistic ways to create small pauses throughout the day, from Ellen’s waiting-room reset to Erin’s “driveway pause,” plus easy rituals like the transition breath, water before caffeine, feet on the floor, and the one-song reset.    Ep 25: Fire Your Internal Drill Seargent

   Most of us carry a quiet belief that if we ever stop pushing ourselves, everything will fall apart, that the pressure, the self-criticism, the "you should be doing more" voice is what's actually keeping us together. Erin and Ellen dig into why that belief feels so true, and why it's worth questioning anyway. They trace where it comes from, and a lot of us grew up with conditional praise, where approval showed up after good performance and correction showed up after anything less. The lesson absorbed early: being pushed hard is what care looks like. Which means the absence of pushing can feel like nobody cares, including yourself about yourself. From there, they take on what Ellen calls the drill sergeant myth: the idea that discipline requires a harsh inner voice. They make the case for a different model entirely: the coach. Clear about the standard, genuinely believes in your capability, gives useful feedback without attaching it to your worth.. There's a real conversation about the word "lazy" and how rarely it's actually true, and usually what's underneath it is depletion, fear, or a task that feels too big, not a character flaw. And then Ellen shares something genuinely vulnerable: a private venting call that got accidentally recorded and sent to her executive team, and the spiral of shame that followed. Plus the moment she asked herself what she'd say to a friend in the same situation, and how that question changed everything. Erin follows with her own story about getting dressed on autopilot during a hard stretch, and realizing the drill sergeant voice had quietly taken over even her closet.
