The Bow Tie Prayer Guy is a podcast all about deepening your prayer life. Join me as I interview missionaries, staff, friends, and family to explore real-life prayer habits—what works, what doesn’t, and how to stay vibrant in prayer. Each month includes personal interviews, short devotionals, and creative prayer ideas to inspire you to pray boldly and expectantly. Let’s grow in intimacy with the Lord together—one conversation at a time.
In this week’s episode of The Bow Tie Prayer Guy Podcast,Clay is joined by Derrick Shipley for a powerful conversation on forgiveness and its essential role in our prayer lives. Together they explore how unforgiveness can hinder our prayers, and how choosing to forgive opens the way for deeper intimacy with God.
If you’ve ever wrestled with forgiving others - or yourself - this episode offers encouragement, biblical truth, and hope for a freer, more effective prayer life.

Episode 13 - Pray What Is In You
In this week’s episode, Clay reflects on a powerful C.S. Lewis quote: “Pray what is in you, not what should be in you.”
Together we explore what it means to come honestly before God, bringing Him our real thoughts, fears, frustrations, and hopes rather than the “perfect” prayers we think He wants. Clay shares why authentic prayer deepens intimacy with God and how honesty in prayer opens the door to growth, healing, and deeper trust.#BowTiePrayerGuy #ChristianPodcast #PrayerLife #PrayHonestly #AuthenticPrayer #CSLewis

Episode 10 - Persevering in Prayer
In this episode, Clay reflects on the words of R.A. Torrey: “Oh, men and women, pray through; pray through! Do not just begin to pray and pray a little while and throw up your hands and quit; but pray and pray and pray until God bends the heavens and comes down.” Clay unpacks what it means to truly “pray through” — to persist in prayer when circumstances seem unchanged and answers feel delayed. He reminds us that perseverance in prayer deepens our faith, draws us closer to God, and helps us experience His power and presence in new ways. Listen in and be encouraged!

Episode 9 - The Good Shepherd
In today's Prayer Thought, Clay and Derrick talk through the first part of John 10, where Jesus reminds us that we are His sheep - safe in His hand. When life feels uncertain or uncomfortable, we can run to Him for comfort and grace. These moments of challenge are where faith takes root and grows stronger.
This episode encourages us to pray boldly, trust deeply, and find peace in the truth that we are secure in Christ.

Episode 7
In this episode, Clay wrestles with a question that every believer faces sooner or later, Do we really trust God?
When life feels uncertain and prayers seem unanswered, trust becomes more than a word; it becomes a daily decision.
Drawing from Proverbs 3:5–6, Clay unpacks what it means to lean not on our own understanding, and turns to Psalm 13 to show that even David -a man after God’s own heart- wrestled with waiting and wondering where God was.
Join Clay as he talks through doubt, faith, and the quiet places where trust is born.
