The Halloween Double Standard: Men, Women, & Costumes
It’s Halloween season, so you already know we had to show up in costume. 🎃
In this episode, the boys talk all things Halloween — from our costumes and favorite Halloween traditions to the decline of trick-or-treating and why some of us just don’t understand the appeal of scary movies.
Then things get a little more serious as we get into boundaries, respect, and the conversations that come up every year around Halloween costumes. We also talk about how those same issues show up in gym culture and on social media, and why what someone chooses to wear is never an excuse for disrespectful behavior.
Plenty of jokes, questionable Halloween takes, personal stories, and a few conversations that needed to be had.
In this episode:

Which Sitcom Characters Are We? + Is Winter Bulking Actually Worth It?
Welcome back to The Boys Who Get It Podcast with hosts MP, Dwayne, and Christian.
This one starts with a peek behind the curtain. The guys work out which characters from New Girl and Psych they're most like, and settle once and for all why nobody in the group can pick a place to eat. Then they get into the holiday season: travelling home, keeping up the gym away from your routine, the winter bulk, and why it's fine to have that extra slice of pie.
Questions AnsweredHow Do You Stay on Track With the Gym When You Go Home for the Holidays?
The guys talk about how hard it is to track food and train when you're out of your usual routine, especially when you have to fly home. Dwayne brings a cooler of food when he visits and deals with his mum guarding her kitchen. They also discuss how hard it can be to explain your goals to family who aren't into the gym, and the pressure of turning up looking bigger on a bulk.
Is a Winter Bulk Necessary?
The guys admit they thought the winter bulk was mandatory when they first started lifting, and that it was often just an excuse to eat everything over the holidays. Dwayne says he's been in a bulk for most of his gym life anyway, so he's having the pie regardless. They agree that a few days at maintenance won't undo months of work.
Is It Okay to Indulge Over the Holidays?
MP points out how differently people get treated at the dinner table: the gym guy going back for a third slice gets a pass, while a heavier relative gets a lecture. The guys talk about family drama and how much the holidays change as you get older. They finish on having a flexible relationship with food. Unless you're on prep for a show, enjoy the holidays and don't try to "earn" your food with extra hours in the gym.
