The Breakdown is an in-depth series of interviews hosted by Costa Zouliou ex triple j radio broadcaster, music enthusiast and part time photog. Join me as we shine a spotlight on up and coming local artists, established bands and anyone who has a story to tell. We're glad you're here to be a part of our story.
There's chats up now with Jim Moginie from Midnight Oil about his latest musical venture called Jim Moginie and The Family Dog.
Jeff Martin from the Tea Party talks about their latest tour with more dropping soon.
TISM are currently on tour, well at least they were until this interview. Looks like they’ve split again and I’m to blame! At least I’ve had some impact on the world of TISM. If you want to know what’s on the collective minds of Ron Hitler-Barassi and Humphrey B Flaubert hit the play button. But be aware there is talk of dead people, Flea and end of TISM and some fruity language.
Final Tour Dates:
FRIDAY OCTOBER 30
SYDNEY | ENMORE THEATRE
SATURDAY OCTOBER 31

the-breakdown.net Costa talks to iOTA about his first album in a decade called Hours Disappear
Hours Disappear is the latest album from iOTA. It's ten years since the release of his last album Wolf Number Nine and over 25 years since the ARIA nominated The Hip Bone Connection was released.

the-breakdown.net Costa Zouliou talks to Jon Toogood from Shihad about his book Home Again.
Jon Toogood is one of the great frontmen in Rock n Roll. His first band Shihad started when he was teenager and met drummer Tom Larkin and from their thrash metal beginnings they rode the dragon of rock for 37 years. Music was Jon's first love and he gave everything in the quest for global success. The sacrifices were personal and deep but after talking with him over a couple hours I don't think he regrets anything....well not too much.

the-breakdown.net Costa Zouliou talks Pinky Beecroft (ex Machine Gun Fellatio)
G’day Folks. I was lucky enough to catch up with Pinky Beecroft, you’ll know him from Machine Gun Fellatio back in the naughties.
Contrary to popular belief, Pinky Beecroft, front man for Machine Gun Fellatio, one of Australia’s wildest and most chaotic live bands didn’t disappear into the Arizona Desert though he did spend some time there, he may or may not have gone into hiding in Norway, nor is he dead, because we’re about to have a chat with him about his brand new record called Lonesome Wolf that’s out on August 14.
And btw The Rolling Stones track we’re talking about is Wild Horses…..

Grumpy Jukebox Episode 4 with Francis Leach, Robbie Buck and Costa Zouliou
Gday Folks, it’s time for Episode four of Grumpy Jukebox.
What do you get if you stick 3 old mates in a virtual studio, one in Melbourne, one in Sydney and one in Brisbane with a bit of time on their hands and nothing better to do than sit around and talk shit, just like they used to but back in the day we were paid for the privilege, now we do it for love. Love of music, love of the new and surprising and love of the banal?
So check out what Francis Leach, Robbie Buck and Costa Zouliou have been listening to, and what the headline in the Sunday Territorian "Why I Put A Screamer Up My Steamer" is referring to.

Grumpy Episode 3 with Francis Leach, Robbie Buck and Costa Zouliou
G’day Folks.
Wanna know what three grumpy old blokes have been listening to over the last couple of weeks? Not just any old grumps, this lot are legends in their own Grumpy Jukebox.

Plus we veer off into World Cup Football, Pachichi (me either, you’ll have to listen to find out), the majesty of Kakadu, Crocs, Artificial Intelligence, Clive Palmer (he’s back), Bill Shorten (Robbie had a beer with him) and UFC White House Styleee (a red white and blue disgrace)
Check the-breakdown.net (http://the-breakdown.net) for Grumpy Jukebox Ep 3.
Also available chats with Lontano, Buzz Bidstrup (The Angels), Jeff Martin (The Tea Party), Jim Moginie (Midnight Oil, The Family Dog), William Crighton, Dom Mariani (The Stems, DM3, Datura 4) and a preview of the Necrosonic Festival with Kent Haines and Chris Rand (Segression).

the-breakdown.net - Lontano album launch with Anthony Dettori and Roz Pappalardo
Lontano is an Italian term meaning "far away". It's also the name of a long-distance collaboration between songwriters Anthony Dettori and Roz Pappalardo, who share Italian-Australian heritage and a love of spacious, earthy, alt-country storytelling.
Lontano's approach melds different perspectives to unearth surprising new musical narratives, not completely autobiographical, but not fictional either - and always tethered to a shared insight about the physics of the human condition. And it's proving to be a highly productive partnership, with two successful albums and an unexpected recent QMA win under their belt.
On this episode of The Breakdown, ahead of the launch of Lontano's third album 'Love without hard lines' (June 20 at The Cave Inn), I catch up with Anthony and Roz, to find out how it all began, how it works, and what the future holds...

the-breakdown.net with Costa Zouliou - Dom Mariani
Late Last year Dom Mariani released his second solo record called Apple of Life.
Dom was the driving force behind 80’s garage rock band The Stems with songs like Sad Girl and At First Sight and later in the 90’s he formed DM3, you might remember power pop tracks like, Foolish and 1 Time, 2 Times Devastated and Melt Away from The Someloves before that.
If you can remember any of those tracks and I’m sure you can, Dom Mariani’s latest album Apple of Life will be a rewarding listen.
And keep an ear out for a tour and new album from The Stems later in 2026.
Check out the link in the comments for our chat about Dom Mariani’s latest solo album, Apple of Life, The Stems and even a bit of Creedence Clearwater Revival, hint: which version of I heard it Through the Grapevine did you hear first, Marvin Gaye’s or CCR’s?

the-breakdown.net with Costa Zouliou - Buzz Bidstrup
Buzz Bidstrup first came to national attention as the drummer for one of Australia’s most prominent and most important bands, The Angels. The classic lineup of Buzz on drums the late Chris Bailey on bass, Rick Brewster on lead guitar, John Brewster on rhythm guitar and the one and only Bernard Doc Neeson on vocals were seldom bettered in the beer barns of the 70’s and 80’s all over Australia.
He’s played drums for The Angels, Jimmy Barnes, Jimmy Little, The Party Boys and still plays, along with his wife Kay in GANGgajang, and he’s either produced or engineered Mondo Rock, Australian Crawl, Richard Clapton, and even Tiny Tim to name but a few.
He’s an ARIA Hall of Fame member and continues to work in other ventures such as the "Thumbs up!" nutrition education program, the Good Tucker App (https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=ce9d4af39ffd895f&rlz=1C1UEAD_enAU1134AU1134&cs=0&sxsrf=AE3TifNiZGozUsj0ODn-VR8OUOzG1l-GHQ%3A1761710424594&q=Good+Tucker+App&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjor5rgwsiQAxV-TWwGHTadE7AQxccNegQIPhAB&mstk=AUtExfD2Wx78_Pb3YqNfZIgrUM3vrzY1h7ThyyerZMLMFlQu1iXKVGVRhMdh8zEowf7Tg39vB-KFaGilwud43TzokoXZCo9zhcMiPYFj2ouPfGqupR4HfOuu3Ihe0scPKvMd2DGy4ka8TGW6ErvlCV71Q3_m1jYuZO7Ei2F_QNsR2qXgxnAyz08um9bqKW9NUtiGKYGycCFOAobT7qxKc-3LLM2URXUT6VzAhQOYh59q6SJw_TYNF32_n9z4qn3qaR-wyBppxnUDHh3LYFYOTfUJSaAs&csui=3).
Buzz was kind enough to talk to me about his book ‘No Secrets, An Oz-Rock Memoir of Music and Mayhem on the-breakdown.net (http://the-breakdown.net) while he was in Uluru celebrating the 40th anniversary of the hand back of the Rock.
