On this episode, Dr. Anthony Benigno, PsyD, the Founder of AB Psych Consulting joins the podcast to share the story of building his pioneering Behavioral Health resource in the Inland Empire. 035 Marriage, Family, & Therapy feat. Kalila Jimenez, LMFT

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Kalila Jimenez, joins The Broken Instruments podcast for Episode 035. After years of studying and practicing Psychotherapy with individuals, marriages, and families, Kalila has a very unique perspective in healthy relationships, effective communication, and how it all starts with self-talk, self-care, and self-work. While I’ve had my own perspective of Therapy, this conversation opened my eyes to a side of it that I had always questioned. I’m grateful for Kalila being willing to answer my sincere questions, and I can honestly say that so much was clarified in this conversation. In this episode, we dive into the language of emotions, healthy communication strategies in your close relationships and conversations with yourSELF, Accommodation vs Accountability, Selfishness vs Selflessness, and how ultimately, I likely won’t be Liam Neeson from Taken. 00:00 Kalila’s Path to working in Mental Health 09:09 The Toll of MH Case Loads 15:06 Heavy Realities & Compassion Fatigue 19:23 Healthy Communication for Couples 21:24 Listening to Yourself, Language of Emotions 25:05 When to Strengthen MH Skills 27:08 Dynamics of Family Issues 30:39 Communication Skills in Personal Life 34:58 The Problem with Absolute Words 36:21 Healthy vs Unhealthy Self-Talk as a Father 41:16 Communication & Adaptability in Marriage 46:00 Family Patterns of Conflict Resolution 47:18 The Battle for the Family 51:20 Selfishness vs Selflessness 57:14 Individual Goals vs Family Goals 58:56 Empathy & Self-Preservation 1:01:00 Protecting Children from a Dangerous World 1:03:40 Trauma is Relative & Attachment Theory 1:05:03 Attachment Theory & Childhood Trauma 1:08:38 Foundations of Successful Relationships 1:11:55 MH Stigma vs MH Dogma 1:13:19 Accommodations vs Accountability 1:18:50 Attachment to Clients 1:23:22 Building Your Support System 1:26:45 Honest Emotions are Powerful 1:28:19 Incorporating Faith in your Profession The Broken Instruments podcast is streaming on YOUTUBE and ALL AUDIO PLATFORMS. #thebrokeninstruments #podcast #therapy #psychotherapy #mentalhealth #marriage #family #healthyrelationships #languageofemotions #selftalk #selfhelp #parenting   #parenthood #raisingchildren #protectingchildren #LMFT #MFT #difficulttopics #vocation #faith --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/brokeninstruments/support (https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/brokeninstruments/support)
