#21 SØN OF DAD - Stephen Wilson Jr

This week we’re talking søn of dad — Stephen Wilson Jr.’s deeply personal, genre-bending debut album, a raw and powerful exploration of grief, family, identity, faith, love, and what it means to become the person you are after losing someone who helped shape you. Blending country, Americana, southern rock, folk, grunge, gospel, and indie influences, søn of dad is an album that feels both deeply rooted and completely its own. It’s intimate and explosive, tender and heavy, moving effortlessly between quiet acoustic confessionals and huge, cathartic rock moments. In this episode, we dive into the album’s central themes of fatherhood, loss, memory, masculinity, rural America, spirituality, and the complicated process of carrying someone with you after they’re gone. From the devastating “Father’s Søn” and “Grief Is Only Love” to the nostalgic “Year to Be Young 1994”, the haunting “the devil”, and the hopeful closing of “The Beginning,” every song feels like another piece of a much bigger story. Whether you’ve connected with Stephen Wilson Jr.’s music from the beginning or you’re discovering søn of dad for the first time, this is an album that rewards close listening & emotional investment. So grab your headphones, pour yourself a drink, and join us as we dive into one of the most emotionally ambitious and beautifully human albums of recent years.
