[…] That's when you're spending more than a third of your monthly income on rent. The dominoes keep falling. If teachers can't afford housing, schools go without teachers. If you think Denver's hurting for teachers, it's like those rural areas, they both have to attract them and then keep them. And housing costs in rural areas are growing just as much where salaries are even lower. And it's just like it makes the problem that much harder. Nationally, school districts have struggled to retain qualified teachers. According to the Colorado Department of Education, the state has the greatest shortage when it comes to special education teachers. […]
