About The Business Podcast Spotlight
Podcasting for Business is different than other kinds of podcasting. It’s not about being the most popular. It’s about being more profitable. But profitable podcasting is less about podcasting best practices and more about solid business strategy. Because a profitable podcast for a business, always starts with the business goals. And those goals are going to look different in different industries and for different companies within those industries. What a law firm will get out of a podcast is different than what a marketing consultant will get out of one. Each episode of the Business Podcast Spotlight is a strategic consultation about how a real business owner is stratigically using podcasts, and how they can do it better. Better, for our purposes means more efficiently, more effectively, and more profitably. The Business Podcast Spotlight is hosted by Megan Dougherty, a podcast producer, strategist and research. She is the co-Founder of One Stone Creative, a full-service podcast production agency, author of Podcasting for Business: How to Create a Show That Makes a Bottom Line Difference for Your Company and creator of the annual State of Business Podcasting Report. Each episode is informed by the Business Podcast Blueprints(tm), One Stone Creative’s proprietary methodology for creating podcasts that drive real business results. There are 5 of them: Relationship Building Podcasts that help connect business owners to the people they need to grow. Audience Engagement Podcasts that help nurture audiences and leads at scale. Thought Leadership Podcasts that establish hosts and brands as authorities in their spaces. Conversion Podcasts that change listeners from one kind of relationship with the host to another. Content Podcasts that help execute on SEO strategies and keep the social media flywheel turning. The Business Podcast Blueprints help expert business owners design profitable podcast strategies that work consistently, without wasting time on chasing metrics that don’t really matter. By focusing on your most important goals, you create a business podcast strategy that moves the needle in a way you can measure. Some of the questions we explore with different business owners are: What are podcasting best practices? How do business owners use podcasts for marketing? How do business owners use podcasts for business development? How do business owners use podcasting to get new clients? What makes podcasts profitable for a business? What does a successful business podcast look like? Why is podcasting for Business Different than other kinds of podcasting? We also look at the business podcast data found in the annual State of Business Podcasting Report, a deep dive into the top 100 buinsess podcasts. This is a benchmark podcast indstry report that examines the most successful business podcasts accross over 70 different criteria like podacst sponsorship, social media promotions, branding and design, podcast format and release schedules, websites and distribution and more. How to Build Your Framework Into Your Podcast
Published 29 Jul 2026 · Transcript excerpt
[…] I would love to be able to roll a 12 in strength for today, but that's just not gonna happen. So we use extremes. So are you really organized or do you thrive in chaos? Where do you fall in that spectrum? And then we use that. So you have your card, your class assessment. Then we use that skill set and we look for your opposites. And then once we have the character sheets done, we go looking for group. And that is my favorite part of this because you'll see people walking around with their cards and they're like, okay, I'm a red. I'm looking for a green. Are you a green? It's so much more fun rather than just interviewing random people because creatives also like to surround themselves with like-minded people. […]
