Lawrence Saint-Victor on Carter's Dark Turn, Daytime Emmy Nominations & 20 Years in Soaps

Twenty years in daytime television, two Daytime Emmy nominations, and one of the most compelling storylines of his career! My friend Lawrence Saint-Victor joins me for his very first full interview on The Buzz – BuzzWorthy Radio! We take a trip down memory lane to where it all began for Lawrence, playing Remy Boudreau on Guiding Light. He reflects on working alongside daytime legends, including Kim Zimmer, Robert Newman, Ron Raines, and Tom Pelphrey, and shares what it was like to participate in the show's historic 70th-anniversary episode. Of course, we have PLENTY to discuss about The Bold and the Beautiful! Lawrence breaks down Carter Walton's controversial decisions, his complicated relationship with Steffy Forrester, and why he doesn't necessarily see Carter as a villain. We also explore the psychology behind these characters, the importance of storytelling payoffs, and why sometimes audiences are supposed to feel frustrated. Lawrence also opens up about becoming part of the show's writing team, the importance of creating multidimensional Black characters, and what it means to receive recognition for both his acting and writing. And because we're both longtime soap fans, you KNOW we had to geek out about classic storylines, legendary rivalries, and those crossover opportunities that never happened! From the past to the present and the future of daytime television, this is one conversation you won't want to miss!

Lou Diamond Phillips Talks GANG LAND, LA BAMBA, Career Choices & Foghorn Leghorn!

Season 20 of The Buzz – BuzzWorthy Radio continues, and I had the pleasure of welcoming Lou Diamond Phillips to the show for the very first time! The last time I saw Lou was in 2019, when we met in the green room at the Daytime Emmy Awards. Seven years later, we finally had the opportunity to sit down for an incredible conversation about his film Gangland, his nearly four decades in Hollywood, and a few unexpected moments along the way! We began by diving into Gangland, where Lou portrays Teddy, a hardened law enforcement officer whose motivations aren't always what they seem. When I first watched the film, I questioned Teddy's methods and whether he was actually helping the community he was sworn to protect. However, as the story progressed, I began to understand the emotional weight behind his decisions. Lou and I explored Teddy's complicated relationship with the Indigenous community, the guilt he carries, and how his personal experiences helped shape this character. We also discussed the importance of authentic Indigenous representation, the real-world issues explored in the film, and why telling these stories with honesty and compassion matters. Of course, I couldn't let Lou leave without talking about La Bamba! I came across a story suggesting he initially didn't want to accept the role of Ritchie Valens, and I had to ask him about it. His reaction was priceless! Not only did he laugh and immediately correct the misconception, but he also shared details about auditioning for both Ritchie and Bob, his early experiences in Hollywood, and how his approach to choosing roles has evolved throughout his career. And somehow, we ended up discussing why Lou Diamond Phillips should play Foghorn Leghorn! Yes, you read that correctly. From his impression of the iconic Looney Tunes character to the possibility of wearing a chicken suit, this conversation took a hilarious turn that neither of us could have anticipated. From meaningful discussions about storytelling and representation to Hollywood memories and plenty of laughs, this is one interview you won't want to miss!
