Podcast 140 - Do You Still Need Vitamin D This Winter?
After the exceptionally hot and sunny UK summer of 2026, you might assume your vitamin D stores are more than enough to see you through winter.
But is that really the case?
In this episode, I revisit vitamin D and explain why a sunny summer does not necessarily mean we can forget about supplementation.
I discuss:
• how our bodies make and store vitamin D from sunlight
• why vitamin D matters for immunity, bones, muscles and brain health
• the surprising levels of vitamin D deficiency found in sunny Australia
• whether the extreme summer heat actually meant many of us spent more time indoors
• why sunscreen, covering up and indoor lifestyles matter
• the benefits of testing your vitamin D level rather than guessing
• vitamin D-rich foods
• winter supplementation and NHS guidance
• when higher amounts may be considered
• why vitamin K2 is often paired with vitamin D3
Just because we enjoyed months of sunshine does not automatically mean our vitamin D stores will last all the way through to spring.

Podcast 139 - Menopause Diet: A Food-First Approach to Hormone Balance
With so many menopause supplements now being marketed to women, it can be tempting to look for one product to solve hot flushes, mood changes, poor sleep or other menopausal symptoms.
But have you really exhausted the food-first approach?
In this episode of the Principles of Good Health podcast, I explain the nutritional foundations I encourage women to consider during perimenopause and menopause.
We look at:
• protein, healthy fats and complex carbohydrates
• blood sugar balance and hydration
• reducing ultra-processed foods
• phytoestrogen-rich foods and fermented soya
• flaxseeds, chickpeas, sesame seeds and other useful foods
• cruciferous vegetables and oestrogen metabolism
• the relationship between gut health and hormone metabolism
• fermented foods and the gut microbiome
• why fibre and healthy elimination matter
Supplements can certainly have a place, but they should not distract us from getting the basic nutritional foundations right.
There is no one-size-fits-all menopause diet. A food-first approach means looking at your whole diet and making small, realistic changes that work for you.

Podcast 138 - How to Avoid Snacking Between Meals: Why It Matters for Your Health
In this episode of the Principles of Good Health podcast, I explain why I do not consider regular snacking between meals to be a healthy habit.
For me, this is about far more than weight loss.
I talk about the role of insulin, why eating frequently can affect fat burning, and why I encourage my clients to focus on three balanced meals a day with good gaps between them.
I also explain:
why weight does not necessarily equate to health
why I recommend aiming for around four to five hours between meals
how the body can adapt to using stored fat for fuel
what autophagy is and why it matters
whether intermittent fasting achieves the same thing
how to build balanced meals with protein, healthy fats and non-starchy vegetables
what to do if the gap between lunch and dinner feels too long
My focus is always health first.
When meals are properly balanced, you may find you can move comfortably from one meal to the next without constantly needing to snack.
