CCHA Reporter's Corner: Michigan Tech's Matthew Van Blaricom joins the show
Episode No. 63 of The CCHA Reporter's Corner features Michigan Tech forward Matthew Van Blaricom, who joins the show to talk about his hockey career and the Huskies' 6-2 start to the 2026-27 season.
Co-hosts Jared Rubado and Trent Singer welcome in Van Blaricom ahead of an important week of rest for MTU. The Huskies opened CCHA action last weekend with a split at Ferris State. They'll host Augustana next week in Houghton, Michigan.
Van Blaricom is already off to a hot start in his sophomore season, tallying seven points on four goals and three assists. MTU swept Minnesota at home to open the season, and since then, the Huskies have split a pair of road series with a home sweep of Alaska Fairbanks sandwiched in between.
A native of Southey, Saskatchewan, Van Blaricom details his early days of playing hockey before he ended up in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the Humboldt Broncos for two seasons.
Then, in 2024-25, the 5-foot-11 forward made his way to the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL. With Muskegon, Van Blaricom racked up 23 points and was part of a team that hoisted the Clark Cup after a grueling championship series against Waterloo.
Van Blaricom talks about how that experience helped shape his hockey career. He also discusses what drew him to the Huskies' program and why he decided to keep his commitment despite a coaching change.
But before their chat with Van Blaricom, Rubado and Singer hand out their three stars of the week while looking ahead to which players could pop off in the league's upcoming three-series slate this weekend.

CCHA Reporter's Corner: Oliver Peer on his path to Bemidji State
On the 62nd episode of The CCHA Reporter's Corner, co-hosts Jared Rubado and Trent Singer welcome in the league's preseason player of the year.
That's right, Bemidji State senior forward Oliver Peer joins the show to talk about the early-season vibes in the Beavers' locker room as well as his journey from Burlington, Ontario, to northern Minnesota.
Peer is coming off a breakout 2025-26 season at BSU in which he racked up 36 points on 20 goals and 16 assists. The 6-foot center was named an All-CCHA First Team honoree and was a finalist for the conference's Forward of the Year award.
Hockey has long been a part of Peer's life. He played three years of AAA hockey in Burlington and had long aspired to play in the Canadian Hockey League.
In 2021, Peer got his chance when he tried out for the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League and made the team. During that first season in the OHL, Peer and his Spitfire teammates made it all the way to the OHL Finals, where they were defeated by the Hamilton Bulldogs in seven games.
After racking up 132 points in three seasons in Windsor, Peer had a cup of coffee in the East Coast Hockey League, playing one game for the Fort Wayne Komets, before making his way to New Brunswick, where he tallied 19 points in 24 games at the USports level in 2024-25.
In this episode, Peer talks about his journey, reflecting on both the ups and downs of traversing multiple ranks before landing with Tom Serratore's Bemidji State program.
Before their chat with Peer, Rubado and Singer ramble a bit about Nathan Fielder and his new documentary (don't worry, there's no spoilers here — Jared still hasn't seen it) and dish out their three stars of the week. They then introduce a new pick 'em game ahead of this week's action in the CCHA.

On episode No. 61, Augustana goalie Mathis Langevin joins co-hosts Jared Rubado and Trent Singer on The CCHA Reporter's Corner to discuss the Vikings' big season-opening series against No. 5 Minnesota Duluth and his journey to Sioux Falls.
Langevin joins AU after transferring from Miami (Ohio) during the offseason. The 6-foot-5 sophomore got his first two starts in a Vikings uniform last weekend versus UMD at Midco Arena. Augustana won the series opener 4-3 in overtime before the two teams played to a 1-1 tie in the finale.
Langevin allowed only two goals at even strength in the two-game series. He stopped 59 of 63 shots in the two games combined, finishing with a 1.92 goals-against average and .937 save percentage.
In this episode, Langevin talks about his early playing days in his hometown of Saint-Zotique, Quebec. Later on, he reflects on an unforgettable playoff run with the Rimouski Océanic in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League in which he went 12-4-0 with a .944 save percentage and helped guide Rimouski to an appearance in the prestigious Memorial Cup.
