The Cerf Report delivers clear, critical analysis of issues that often lack depth or rigor. Each episode examines the forces shaping economic power, public policy, technology, and institutional change — separating signal from noise. On February 20, 1933, about twenty-five of Germany’s leading industrialists met Hermann Göring at his official residence in Berlin. Hitler told them private enterprise could not survive democracy and that this would be the last election. Then he left the room, and Hjalmar Schacht asked for three million Reichsmarks.
They were not buying fascism. They were buying the destruction of the left, and they got it within months.
This episode traces that transaction forward: Elon Musk’s $366 million, the $333 million White House ballroom, and the three court decisions that turned a secret meeting into an open market.

The bidding never stops until the money does
Rome did not fall because someone bribed a voter. It fell when the next bid cost more than the money was worth.
This episode follows that structure from the men who financed Caesar, to the guard that sold the throne, to a president who has put the same offer in front of the American crowd. Not a crime. A price. And a question Rome answered too late.
