How to Design an Emotion: Designing Emotions with Programming Logic

In this how-it-works edition of Analyze This, Dr. Zoe Campbell — the affective neuroscientist in the novel God Father by Cézjah, also the author of How to Design an Emotion — directs two AI pundits to take apart How to Design an Emotion: Designing Emotions with Programming Logic. They walk through, step by step, how its framework actually works: the mechanics, the architecture, the distinctions it keeps, and the tests it has to pass. This deep dive is for listeners who want a usable ontology of emotion, not a slogan. The Constructivist Linguistics of Emotion (How It Works)

In this how-it-works edition of Analyze This, Akiko Shishido, the Japanese family law attorney in the novel God Father by CJ, also the author of How to Design an Emotion, directs two AI pundits through the mechanics of Part V: The Constructivist Linguistics of Emotion. A companion value-proposition episode on the same Part covers why it matters; this one shows how the framework actually works. This episode walks through how Part V locates the line between feeling and emotional meaning. Meaning is built from three axes into a minimal criterion. Four thresholds follow in order: symbolic detachment, endorsement, grammar, and metarepresentation, the point where error becomes statable. Emotionese is explained as a system, with identifiers, a grammar, and stake, along with how it differs from the language of thought. The episode climbs the ten-level Emotional Meaning Architecture to the symbolic threshold between Levels 4 and 5. It runs the animal cases (vervet calls, scrub-jays, the dog's guilty look, the parrot that says sorry) and shows why each stops at or below Level 4, then watches infants cross it. It also covers commitment below assertion and the three results that would defeat the claim. Then come misattribution, prototype versus stereotype, what the C# tests do and do not check, the music model of feeling, and the final definitions of affect, feeling, and emotion, with how the seven frameworks stack. The Construction of Emotion (How It Works)

In this how-it-works edition of Analyze This, Dr. Ethan Fox, the psychiatrist in the novel God Father by CJ, also the author of How to Design an Emotion, directs two AI pundits through the mechanics of Part IV: The Construction of Emotion. A companion value-proposition episode on the same Part covers why it matters; this one shows how the framework actually works. This episode walks through how Part IV builds and tests its model. It defines affect (the body's regulatory substrate), feeling (awareness of affect), and emotion (a goal-governed act of interpretation) and shows why none can stand in for another: footsteps at night turn from fear to relief while the body barely changes. The trade study is laid out as a procedure, from candidate selection and the definitional gate to weighted domains and the Weighted Sum Model matrix, including its built-in limit: it measures fit to the author's own architecture. The episode then follows the thirteen-stage Constructivist Semiotic Model of Emotions in order. Prediction, perception, allostasis, and metaperception prepare meaning without constituting it. Interpretation proposes and commitment, extended from Brandom, binds. Reappraisal and reinterpretation come last. It covers the computational model (Biological Intelligence Application Server, goal-sensitive schema ranking, Conscious Override, the C# programs), the divergences from Lazarus, Scherer, and Roseman, and how granularity training, CBT, REBT, and ACT each work inside Emotional Constructivism's interpretive constraints. Edition: How it works / mechanics (companion to the value-proposition episode on the same Part) Framework: Part IV · The Construction of Emotion From: How to Design an Emotion (Universal Moral Concepts III) Author: Cézjah (Cecil John) Scholarly / DOI landing: https://newintellectual.com/how-to-design-an-emotion/part-4 DOI: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23631003 Book product: https://newintellectual.com/products/how-to-design-an-emotion Site: https://cezjah.com The views expressed in this podcast are not necessarily those of the author.
